A statistical reminder. Auburn the past few years....

There’s concerns but it’s definitely too early. We’ll be able to tell what we have next year. To me, Year 2 tells the tale. He needs to show he can bring in a really good QB and build a great offense around him.

I like the guy, but players and coaches are now paid to produce.
When Shug had a decent job and the guys stayed and played 4 years, I loved Auburn football no matter what.
Now that it’s mercenaries and millionaires, I’ll criticize various aspects of performance as I see it.
McPherson is a mensch.
We’ve got some guys giving great effort.
The coaches are making changes each week.
But IF guys mess up, part of being paid is taking criticism. Coaches and players.

Agreed. But I think we’re dealing with a serious dearth of talent more than anything, both with players and coaches. More than even Golesh thought. We’re going to be low-tier SEC until we get some real talent on the lines of scrimmage, and cut some dead weight off the staff. I like Golesh and I think he has the leadership chops to make some tough decisions in the off-season to bring us back to being competitive but he’s has a rude awakening this year. We are just not a very good football team right now.

This right here is what bothers me more than anything. And we won't improve until we fix this. And it is on the offense and defense.

I'd be surprised if we win TOP anytime this season, but we did hang on to the ball when we absolutely had to yesterday to close the game out.

The VU game was a weird one in terms of TOP… the blocked punt TD eliminated one of our drives in the first half.
We only had THREE drives in the second half… TD, Punt, and then the 6 min drive to ice the game.
IMO, it’s on the defense to get the frick off the field… two 7.5 minute drives in second half…. That’s got nothing to do with the offenses tempo.

During the Vandy game it said we are 5-16 in SEC games at Jordan Hare Stadium since start of 2021. Now 6-16 with win over Vandy.

This is misleading… we’re 7th in scoring defense and 7th ypp… that’s after playing three competent p4 teams. Every team that ranks ahead of us in ypp has only played two p4 opponents.
Also… Auburn and ole Miss rank last in ypg… both have played Florida… prob not a coincidence.

But I'm having a hard time not remembering the D saved our sorry asses on the last second of game one. Much the same as they marginally kept us ahead this last game. And against a Vandy who was even luckier to win their only game with a team with a pulse.
ie: a defense this bad was forced to bail out an even sorrier offense.
So, I'm thinking the team should consider themselves lucky to have not reaped what they've sowed.

This post reeks of charmin soft mentality and a cup of excuses filled to the brim.
Auburn defense is 131st in the country averaging on the field 56% of the game. The offense does not help, but neither do dumb penalties, non-clutch 3rd and 4th down conversions, and the inability to stop the other team from scoring.
Our opponent's redzone scoring percentage is 60% which is equally as bad as Florida's porous D, resulting in Auburn being ranked 103rd in the country.
A decent defense needs to be on the field only 49% to 50% of the time and needs to be able to strike the band at a moment's notice.
I will not ever celebrate a successful bend dont break defense.
Those defenses rely on mistakes, not force, to stop the drives. Given as fast Golesh wants to hum the offensive motor, hoping to get as many extra possessions as possible, he has a counterintuitive partner doing a damn good job wrecking his plans.
I understand you waited for Durkin's numbers to revert back to the mean after playing against a lifeless Vanderbilt football team, but October is coming baby.

Durka has been a bend and break defense, especially when Auburn has a lead.

Yeah he seems to have a knack for those oopsies

If his defenses haven’t been having these same problems for 3 years now, I would say he’s intentionally doing this because he’s butthurt that nobody wanted him as Auburn’s HC.

The point was throwing out stats 4 games in is stupid bc the competition is not the same. … if we played Samford Saturday and punted Vandy to November would our stats look better?
The defense has major issues but does anyone think it’d actually the 15th best defense in the league conference?
