I dont think the issue is the share of the 20.5 million that is the sticking point. Its what NIL deals on top of that will be allowed. Supposedly this "committee" will decide what is legit NIL.
Remember we have a lot of players currently on NIL deals. Does the committee think these are legit, or does it come out of the 20 mil and we have to restructure the way we set up new NIL deals for prospective players?
The money is there its just being certain we can legitimately offer it. And that will be figured out.
Many of these players that "got away" were listing Auburn as one of their top choices, if it was money that swayed them, money will sway them back, no worries.
One thing is certain, the 20 mil just became an ante in an ever more expensive poker game and the players, many of them, will be making some serious money.

We need an auction scenario, we already got the fast talking and just need a gavel to fall on signing day. And then deduct money for any kid late to the sale; by making it come out out of their pockets as a penalty for abusing the process.
This open-ended I have no legal responsibility until signing is for the f'n'birds.
It's a failure to negotiate in good faith. And 2me it seems detrimental enough for the school who has taken the word of the seller to seek legal remedy to recover all costs. And if it's at more than one institution the penalty should be applied to every school this scoundrel has negatively impacted. I understand the right to get paid; just like I understand there are certain rights that come with verbal commitments. Which can be legally binding and in this case might not be too hard to prove. Which is the hardest part to prove in most disagreements.
Yep, not a lawyer, it just seems we are allowing these kids far more leeway than we would accept in any other business deal. They can lie through their teeth, make a school feel like that position is taken care of, and then once that money is spent elsewhere they want more , so you have to restart the money drain with someone new or pony up more. And you had a verbal... it's high time they are held responsible.

So many problems with the new system
1. 20.5 milli9n doesnt seem like very much to split between all athletes.
2. Are under the table benefits back? Otherwise what would really differentiate one offer from another?
3. A committee to decide which nil deals are legit? I hate it. Auburn will for sure play it safe while our rivals call the ncaa's bluff.
4. Auburn seems to want to avoid early bid wars. I dont blame them, but now we have to have an extremely aggressive closing strategy since we will be relying on flips. I think having the recruit on your commit list will prove more reliable than coming in late with aggressive bids.

quote:the pendulum swung way too far from “kids are being exploited making millions for schools without adequate compensation” to “kids are walking away with money already in the bank and leaving schools in the lurch while having no accountability for reneging on NIL deals”
it just seems we are allowing these kids far more leeway than we would accept in any other business deal.

And this is why Auburn will continue to be behind its top rivals. DeBoner had never had a top 30 class, but now all the sudden he’s killing it in recruiting? Yeah sure

He’s at Alabama now, not Washington. They have been at the top as long as the kids have been alive. He’s gonna have to slowly tear them down.

Our coach is getting butt rammed by DeBoer at the one thing he's supposed to be good. Like 3 weeks ago we were basically even in recruiting. Now we are like 90 and they are 3. We suck. Just drop football already if we aren't going to take it seriously.

They had one #15 ranked class in 2019 so Peterson (Lake was DeBoers predecessor and far worse) wasn’t pulling them in at a high rate.

Syracuse got a 5 star wr and ain’t got hardly a 4 star commit. August first better be revolutionary.

I get that. I was just responding to a post. Didn’t feel like writing a book on my thoughts about it.
I saw somewhere that the third party that is responsible for approving NIL deals did a review of the current deals in place and those they reviewed, and I don’t know the number, they would have approved only 28%. Is that why Auburn slowed down? I can’t answer that and not sure what has Auburn doing what they are doing.

Only thing I can say is my otv subscription isn’t for 93rd overall recruiting classes. I can say the situation will be monitored closely.

They've also never had millions of $ to spend.

That’s why I pulled my membership to OTV after the house settlement because I have no idea how they will affect recruiting at this point. It’s appears pretty clear in the settlement that the “collectives” isn’t a true NIL deal.
I watched Hoke and JGT the other day and the way it was explained to Hoke is that if the University coordinates the NIL endorsements that the money from that goes towards the 20.5m cap. So if the University gives a player 400k rev share and finds 400k in outside endorsements that still equals 800k toward the cap. If the player and /or their agent find the 400k only the 400k rev share amount will go towards the cap. That is the difference in the haves and have nots right now how they are operating with the outside deals. Auburn legal is under the impression that if they coordinate the NIL that it counts towards the 20.5m cap.
Another note from the show I found interesting. Say a player let’s use Cam Coleman. Say he is paid 800k from the university toward the cap. To pick up Cam Coleman from the portal the other team would essentially have to outbid Auburn’s offer plus pay Auburn 800k for Cam Coleman. I’m not sure that would hold up in court but that’s the rules for now. So maybe that cuts down on players testing the portal waters after each season.

So after preaching to us , you have pulled your donations because you dont trust how they will be used.
That sounds very familiar my friend.

My question is this…While everyone is focusing on what officially coordinated NIL deals count against the cap, what’s to keep “rogue boosters” from loosely coordinating money drops outside the parameters of the NIL altogether. And what’s to keep those boosters from doing what they’ve always done which is pay for family members under the table to gain influence?
There is no way to police that and the enforcement agency only has enough manpower to focus on coordinated deals and whether or not they are ‘legal’ or not. It’s like focusing on who’s got their hand in the cash register, only to find the back door is wide open and no one is even looking there. I think the big boys know that and they are rolling along while we play with our puds and focus on “the rules”.
Football recruiting is a dirty, dirty game. Bama, UGA, TX et.al. are masters at it. And we haven’t had a guy who knows how to play the game since Dye.

If Dye knew how to play the game we wouldn't have missed out on SECCG and possible National Title game in 93. I guess he just slipped later on.
