The Tulane QB said he was returning to Tulane a few weeks ago.

With Leary’s injuries, you couldn’t count him as being a clear upgrade. He could be another Calzone that doesn’t see the field.

Lol. There is nothing about his injury which suggests that he will be unable to play or compete. Kentucky is giving him a serious amount of NIL money; they're not doing that for a player who may not even play for them. The injury thing with him was totally exaggerated; it's not even a throwing arm injury. He is a clear upgrade over Ashford, who some of you seem to forget is a 3rd string QB who shouldn't have even seen the field last season if not for disaster.

Calzada re-injured himself and STILL could have played. He simply chose not to. I'm not sure what the comparison is supposed to be there.

The Tulane QB and who else? And please don’t list guys that have never started a game.

You want me to list the names of the QB's whom we spoke to, when we technically weren't supposed to be speaking to them?

We spoke to at least 3 STARTING QB's. They've been brought up before. Will Rogers from MSU was one who was fielding interest and was considering leaving.

Will Rogers for 1. If we did him, I am sure we did others. Didn't we kick the tires on the UNC QB? Sure we talked to the Wake Forest kid that went to Notre Dame too

So the rumor that he got fired after selling information to Hoke just might be true.

, I would guess that they simply do not value having a body in for spring practice from what's available highly versus waiting to see who is available post spring from the group that will be in open competition for starting jobs
I think this is correct. Bringing in extra bodies who aren't a clear starter doesn't do much for us. There are some guys who won't win starting jobs (the UGA backup comes to mind) who were top 5-10 QBs in their class and highly rated 4 star to 5 star. Maybe couldn't get them during this period but they'll be looking to play if they haven't won a starting job this spring.

Then there's the fact that McCall could graduate. We may already have something worked out with him to grad transfer. He's a redshirt Junior so has been at the school 4 years.

I see that he only thought McCall was the only clear upgrade over what he already has

Yea I don't know about all that. We were statistically the worst passing team in the SEC by a wide margin. Granted the Oline was bad, but not wholly to blame for being dead last by a mile. If you were doing a QB draft there are undoubtedly guys we could have taken in the portal who would go before Robby. That said, it seems like Freeze is waiting for the guy he wants rather than just trying to grab the first player who is marginally better plus NIL requirements add an additional element to the calculus.

Could be, although if it were true I’d imagine he’d have a hard time getting hired so quickly right? That’s a story I’d love to hear

LOL at the notion that Ashford is anywhere near close to fitting a Freeze offense. A staple for example is an rpo with a tight end down the middle seam. This requires the ability to make a quick read and have great accuracy. We have seen none of this form Ashford. Sure it's nice to have a running QB but this is very secondary in a Freeze offense.

If Ashford has to be the QB, we won't be running a typical Freeze offense.

Yea the reality is Robby kind of was the only type of QB who would work for us last year because he needed to run for his life more often than not. Helps to be fast when running for your life.

In general, the portal has strengthened both lines of scrimmage with 3 likely starters on the offensive line and at least rotational players along the front 7 (probably 3 likely starters).

Brother Hugh has utilized the time he has been here wisely. Shoring up the box on both sides of the line of scrimmage was extremely important and will ultimately determine our long term success.

”Seek ye first large, athletic linemen who can move quickly and dominate the box, then after spring a QB will be added unto you. Hallelujah.”

thanks

Been considering Hugh visited his HS and not Posse as maybe the direction he's leading. Gotta have some wheels to go along with those pro-set skills.

who knows

Anyone heard anything about Huard? Seems like a west coast guy so no idea if he is a fit at all but pretty highly rated guy in the portal from Washington.
