Cristobal is a recruiter. Saban is a coach. How in the hell you got two upvotes I have no fricking clue. Recruiters don’t do what Saban has done with the amount of staff and player turnover he has lived with.

I remember reading an article some time ago where they said one of the few times Saban was truly pissed at a former coach of his was Dabo. When Dabo got to Clemson one of the first people he snagged was the recruiting coordinator for Alabama and installed the same system.
I hope we can do the same, with the portal we are going to need another full division of people to keep up with that integral part of recruiting. And the whole NIL piece, it may be technically not a part of the school but there will have to be integration given the fact you are dealing with 85 potential annual contracts, salary budgets for incoming HS and portal kids, etc.
The head coaches will become even more CEO types and leave the Xs and Os to the coordinators (you heard Freeze allude to this).

Who cares what label you want to put on it, he is a master mind for going all out in recruiting. He changed the game.
Urban Meyer at UF and FSU of the 90s are the only two programs that have come anywhere close to what he has done in recruiting.

I don’t think Saban is the greatest in-game coach, But he is a helluva
coach on the practice field teaching fundamentals and discipline which carries over to the playing field, which still makes him a very good coach.

First upvote.
Imagine calling the greatest HC of all time “just a great recruiter.”

If he’s a great coach then why did he fail in the NFL? Because he’s a baby back bitch with a little man syndrome.

saban is like Jimmy Johnson. Get saban in a tight game and he will do dumb things. Jimmy Johnson admitted x's and o's weren't his forte. Evaluating talent is what he was outstanding at. saban is the same way.

Dumbest thing I’ve seen on this board. He has six national championships in 15 seasons at Alabama. He is the greatest college football COACH of all time.

He’s was like .500 in two seasons… he wasn’t bum Phillips.

The things he is best at are some of the most important things in the college game... recruiting, development, and creating structure for 18-22 year olds that they get on board with.

In the NFL - scheme, roster management, and in-game strategy become much more important, while recruiting is a 0 and creating structure is still somewhat important but vastly less so.
Both leagues are playing the same sport but they're totally different games from a coaching perspective.

Freeze is a X’s and O’s guy and a recruiter. When was the last time the west Alabama midget called plays on the field?

Some of you don't know shite about football or you're letting your hatred of Bama cloud your judgment. Saban is the best that's ever done it. It really, really sucks that he has done it at Bama but he has.
That said we finally have someone leading our program that knows what it takes to compete with him.
Act like beating our rival isn't one of the most important qualifications for the the job but Bama losing 6 in a row to Auburn is why Saban was hired.

Being a great coach is more than just playcalling

Steve Spurrier didn’t fair too well in the NFL either. Would you say he is a very good coach? I would
Bro, just take the loss on this one. We all can’t bat a 1000.
