Given your track record of hilariously bad takes in everything from geopolitics to sports in general, we all should feel pretty good right now.

Nick Saban’s first class was a few 4* with mostly 3*s.

Want to know why? Because even the GOAT still needed time to build relationships.

Shitting on Freeze’s recruiting when he’s been on the job 3 weeks and Harsin had done shite to recruit is asinine.

At least Shula left Saban something to build on for his first class.

Nick Saban’s first class in 2007 finished top 10 on rivals.

But who’s failure is that?

If your answer is Freeze, then you’re a bigger idiot than I gave you credit for.

Saban was hired at Bama Jan 3, 2007. About a month later, he signed a class in Feb.

That class finished 12th on the composite and his highest ranked HS recruit was 109th. He did have a JUCO kid that was ranked 2nd among jucos

So if we’re comparing this class to Saban’s, we should be starting with the ‘07 class when Saban had a month before the first signing day/period, similar to what Freeze is working with now.

Might as well just sign up for a 247 trial or something.

Rivals was the major recruiting website at the time (247 and ON3 didn’t exist). According to them he signed the #10 class with a few top 100 recruits.

On rivals, Saban had 2 top 100 guys for the 07 class.

On rivals, Freeze has 1 so far. So by the bar you’ve set, he just needs another?

Edit : Freeze would need to flip Faulk and Mitchell to land 2 top 100 recruits on Rivals

Edit: Saban had 3, actually. They had a guy ranked 100 that I missed.

Many of who were Shula recruits. His 2006 class was 12th ranked so its not like Saban built a class ranked in the 50s like Freeze is having to do.

How many 5* players has Auburn ever signed? How many of them worked out? Do you think Auburn has ever experienced success?

Caught that at in an edit. Apologies

Not a big difference still, IMO. Obviously Saban’s recruiting really took off afterward and the challenge for Freeze won’t be getting 3 top 100 guys in year 1. It’ll be getting high quality portal transfers in years 1 and 2, as well as starting to chip away at the high end talent gap moving forward.

I generally agree that any year without blue chip, top 50 type of guys is a failure on some level. I don’t agree that it’s mandatory in this current class but that’s mitigated by the fact that we can utilize the transfer portal

Looking again at the Bama ‘07 class, they had 10 4*, 12 3* and an average recruit rating of 3.28

Auburn’s got 6 4*, 6 3*, and an average of 3.38. At this point in time, that 07 class has 2 more top 100 guys.

Ultimately, I’d expect these two classes to be pretty similar come NSD. But hard to know as of today. Freeze and company have a lot of work left to do

Yo all QBs HS and transfers ??

If Auburn lands Phil Montgomery they will have not 1, not 2 but 3 top 25% grade qb coaches in all of fbs since 2009

Phil alone is top 10% as a qb coach and in his 5 yrs as a qb coach his guys AVERAGE a 165.413 qb rating with 9.49 yds/attempt
