KN posted an article on Colton Hood's OV:

quote:

“I went great,” Hood said. “I had a great time. My pops and uncle, they came here to see their alma mater so it was great to experience everything. The new facilities and all of that. Meeting with Coach (Bryan) Harsin and Coach (Zac) Etheridge was really eye-opening about their character. So I had a great time. Coach Etherisdge was just talking about how their DB room is more of a family than a DB room. He introduces all of them to his kids and treats them all like family. He also taught me some things about my own game I could work on and be better at. And Coach Harsin, he was asking me questions and trying to learn things about me since I haven’t really gotten to know him that much. It was great talking to him. I learned a lot from him. He was in a lot of alignment with what my dad has always taught me. It was a great conversation.”

quote:

“They definitely made a very hard push,” Hood said. “Especially since I’ve been around Auburn my whole life. They used that to their advtange obviously. They made a hard push this weekend.”

quote:

“I thought they played well going up into the half — they were doing their thing,” Hood said. “The atmosphere was still crazy regardless of them losing the game. The fans were still there. The game was still loud. That’s a great sign. Loyal fans.”

Regarding NIL:

quote:

“It’s not really that important,” he said. “A lot of kids are out here today talking about this money, that money. I mean, if you’re out there playing and you’re balling the money will come regardless. That’s not really a big component for me.”

Factors in his recruitment:

quote:

“The coaching staff, the all-around atmosphere at the school — and the school itself,” Hood said.

Where things stand and what Auburn can do to impress him:
quote:

“I wouldn’t say there is anything they have to do,” Hood said. “We’re just staying in contact right now. I’m still committed to Michigan State.”

Doesn't know if he will sign in December or February

We’ll keep an eye out for recruit reactions to this news. Most have been asked and most have given the typical PR responses along the lines of “I hope they stay, they’re building something, but I’m committed to the school”. Gotta see if the new guy wants them, as well. Lots of moving parts.

Harkless has told Clemente he knew it was coming and he’s still committed.

Not surprised. Most of our commits best offers are from AU so we may not see much turnover in the class.

Josh Horton, one of the Langston Hughes kids, with his response to learning Harsin was fired:

quote:

"I mean, that was really one of the holdbacks. So I mean, that's cool. But just, what they gonna do to fill his spot and are they going to fire the rest of the coaching staff?"

Anyone with a 247 sub able to sum up what Jason said about Harsin screwing up with recruiting?

More recruit reactions to Harsin's firing:

quote:

DE Qua Russaw, Montgomery, Ala. (Carver)

“I wish the best of luck to coach Harsin and his family. He was always nice to me and my family we had a great relationship. I wish him the best of luck in the future. But this doesn’t change anything with Auburn. They’re still one of my top schools.”

quote:

Ashley Williams, Zachary, La. – Auburn commitment

“Coach Harsin and his staff of coaches have built a solid and meaningful relationship with me and my family. I don’t know who the replacement will be  or if the new administration will be as willing to build that type of foundation with me. I really like Auburn, but I am also open and excited to see what the future holds as well.”

quote:

OL Clay Wedin, Tampa, Fla. (Carrollwood Day) – Auburn commitment

“I don’t like seeing people get fired with all the stress and concerns coming from it. I’ve learned to focus on the controllable and that is far from my reach. I knew the situation when I picked Auburn, but at the end of the day I committed to Auburn, not a coach so I am still locked in tight. I still see Auburn as a special place and I still want to be apart of it.”

Tyler Scott tweeted a broken heart emoji and Adrian Posse tweeted a facepalm emoji

JC Hart:
quote:

Does Harsin's departure affect Hart's commitment?

"It doesn’t, but it does depending on the new coaching staff."

Daquavious Sorey:
quote:

"Really isn’t a shocker to me, that’s just how this business stuff goes. From here on out I’m still locked in with Auburn, but my options are open"

I understand some recruits disappointment but the writing had been on the wall for quite some time

This is the good part of having a lackluster recruiting class. Not shocked Russaw is unaffected. He has seemed like he wants to pick Auburn but doesn’t want to step into a shitshow the whole time.

Russaw’s NIL offer doesn’t hinge on Harsin and one of the biggest things going for Auburn doesn’t really hinge on a coach at all, which is that he’d be really close to MadHouse training in Montgomery and getting back there regularly.

I think Auburn is in play for Russaw and Smith as long as they like the new coach and as long as Auburn throws the bag at them

It may not align but they’re not writing Auburn off

Holy shite that Horton comment

I think Wilson was already trending towards decomitting anyway and it just gave him an excuse to go ahead and do it.

Harkless and Wedin have the right idea too.

Just read the big money men have now opened up the checkbooks for NIL, since Harsin is officially gone.

I imagine that checkbooks are open because they know who is being brought in. I doubt they get opened earlier when they could bring in Harsin 2.0 in.

That’s the word. A deal was made before Harsin being fired. They were going to keep Harsin, if they couldn’t get who they wanted. We shall see.

I don’t think I believe a deal has been made tbh. I think Roberts wanted the new AD to have a clean slate or the option to have a clean slate. I guarantee Cohen said he would rather deal with just a coaching search instead of firing Harsin.

Not sure any of it matters. Seems clear Roberts didn’t think much of Harsin. I’m sure Cohen wasn’t impressed with what he saw either

Auburn has previously had 13 milllion in NIL commitments prior to today. So hopefully this energized the money guys that didn’t want to arm Harsin on his sinking ship

Think about this, what if Cohen was told, we have ______ set up to be hired as next coach and you can come in and announce that it was your hire?

JGT says we are contacting Prime tomorrow.

Life is about to get real for some people namely greygoose, MrAuburnTigers, and others that called me an idiot for wanting Prime.
