So nobody terribly hurt at the moment. That is swell.

Anybody else gotten an idea what our offense will look like?
quote:Mix of 3-4 and 4-2 with a safety dropping down sometimes I think, but if we struggle to stop the run or anything who knows how that might change.
Or our defensive strategy.

I got three fantasy drafts scheduled and two are at different houses. I will be busy footballing it up.

Yes. We will run the ball and we will throw the ball.
You are like when I useed to have garbage work shifts, even on the weekends. I would call my wife and ask her to call me and give me a summary of all the big moments.
"We caught the ball, our guy was running the ball and then he dropped it ater running for a while."
Did he fumble it?
Hold on, let me ask someone.
No. It was incomplete.

No doubt about it. They seem to be feeding him the rock a good bit now, although I know this is preseason and I hope they save the rest of the hits for the regular season.

Are there any quirks that we dont know about? Do we line up under center on 4th and one or are usually in the shotgun? Do we line up in shotgun most of the time. Do we run plays at an epic pace? Are we still running to set up the pass???

Remember the “Coxcat” and the 4 QB Notre Dame box against Clemson years ago?
I don’t think we will see the “Spinning Pirouettes” that we saw that night.
May have been the worst “wrinkle” ever.

As long as we dont do that and we sometimes try a QB sneak on 4th and inches then we can call that progress.
I was talking to some guys at the gym and they think Gus is the reason for a lot of the offensive innovation that has happened in the NCAA. In a way I agree with them. Gus brought this high school philosopy that helped teams beat bigger teams. However we have seen the other side of Gus on the spectrum as well. We have seen edges of that spectrum that would only make sense if there was a Mandela effect. Or an escape of reason into a black hole.

What worked for the champs were Mahomes and Kelce.

Worst job of coaching i have ever witnessed to this day. Five Qbs. Five. Even a fricking high school coach should've known better. this was the game I started calling for him to be fired.

He developed the core principals, but others have taken it to the next level with the increased focused on passing which in Gus version was pretty simple. Other versions are pretty simple in their own right (Drag, cross, corner) but there's more variety and takes advantage of space more than Gus did.

Decent article on the defensive philosophy and scheme written around when we hired Roberts.
Anyone remember the Ellis Johnson 4-2-5 days?
Either one of the DEs or a Safety/LB hybrids (may be Cam Riley) needs to be able to do coverage duties in the middle of the field or we will be eaten alive by RPOs/crossing routes.

Sure. I remember Kevin Steele's too. The 4-2-5 is the main defense being run across the country right now.

Yes. Probably cost ole Bus a natty in 2013 and another SECC in 2014. Him not being fired after the 2013 season was mind numbing.

Fire someone in their first year after making the championship game?
We would be running through coaches every year.

A DC that fielded one of the worst defenses in Auburn history? Yes

I think that’s a thing that’s very easy to see in hindsight but would have been an iffy decision in the moment.
We’re coming off 2012 where we gave up 28.3 points per game and ranked 68th in Scoring Defense.
Then in 2013 we have a lot of success which was mainly due to the offense but the defense wasn’t horrible. We improved to 24.7 points a game ranked 48th in the country.
So out of context, firing Ellis Johnson after 13 might make sense. Auburn is used to better defenses than 48th in the country. But everything was viewed through the lens of rebuilding from 2012 at the time.

Agreed. No one knew the wheels were gonna fall off in 2014.. and when they did, a better DC was brought in for 2015.

wow 2016 Clemson had been completely wiped from my memory. I do not remember that game one iota.
