Fun to speculate about the QBs. A couple of thoughts

Freeze said what he looks for in a QB in order

1 Does he see what he sees when he looks at the defense
2 Does he make the right decision based on 1
3 Can he make the throw

Montgomery a week ago when asked about Geriner

"Everyone knows he throws a pretty ball, tight spiral, quick out of the hand.....but what impresses me is his grasp of looking over the defense and making the right decision"

Now you take those comments for what they are and it sure sounds like Geriner has always been in the hunt for a spot.

Like most I think Thorne takes the lead, Geriner is number two if Thorne goes down, and Ashford comes in for packages that include the option to throw....limited safe options...if the run is not there.

Or he may play Yahtzee and roll with Geriner.

The easiest choice Freeze could make for QB would be Ashford.

The team knows him.
He has been here the longest.
He is the best athlete.
He adds the running dimension to an offense that will need points.

He knew what he needed to do in the off season. Stop the turnovers. Stop the bad decisions. Make the easy throws. All of these things would be easy to show in practice and a scrimmage.

Has he done this yet?

The longer the “QB battle” goes on - the worse it is for Ashford.

but he can't hit the side of a barn from the inside. Do people not remember this?

ETA Freeze's O is not Gus' O. It is a pass heavy O.

He was lucky to even complete screen passes. I remember. And it was not always because of pressure.

Dude was a terrible passer. And if Hugh is gonna be more pass heavy, I just don’t see how he can be the guy. Even if we want him to be.

This is what concerns me most with Robby. A passing RPO offense has a lot of short to intermediate throws and Robby has struggled mightily with those throws. Every pass can’t be a deep ball.

Agreed

Disagree. There’s pressure from the Ashford haters to start anyone but Ashford. Freeze has made this a legit battle. If Ashford comes on top, then he’s proved once again he’s best QB on the roster.

I honestly think when Freeze said he had his mind made up and has to rethink it.....its whether to start Geriner over Thorne...Ashford is nowhere in that discussion.

Go back and actually watch the damn games from last year. Robby finds ways to lose ball games. That is a fact. Fumbles, ints, bad reads, running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage etc. If he is our starting Qb then we wont make a bowl game

Monday will be clean up for all players about mistakes made in the scrimmage. Plus more drills.

Tuesday will be more install. The media viewing window should be somewhat of an indicator on the rotation at QB.

No practice Wednesday no practice probably decision day.

Thursday probably the pecking order established and announced by Freeze post practice.

And with all that said about the QB situation I’m still more concerned about the defensive front.

I seem to remember that Gus usually picked his QBs around the 20th and 21st of month so Freeze still has ample time to drag it out longer if he needs to do so.

You’re correct between 2 QBs but not between 3.

As the old saying goes if you have 3 QBs you have none

The longer we have a 3way QB battle, the worse it is for our chances this year.

If we brought in a transfer and he's not head and shoulders clear #1 over what we had last year, it doesn't matter who wins, Auburn loses more than it wins.

Sure Robby could have made some miraculous leap in his game, but I don't think 3QB battles come from having 3 really good QBs. They come from having 0 QBs capable of winning the games we want them to win.

What if it’s more about Geriner showing some major growth and passes better than Thorne? Maybe he is showing he might be ready to step in as #1?

I endorse this circular reasoning.

I am hoping this is the case. We will have him at least two more year.
