Yeah, maybe we should only recruit under preforming 5* that look like Bama's last night.
You mean the guys headed to Atlanta as the #2 team in the country who control their own destiny to go to the playoff?
I'd take some underperforming 5*s like that.

Exactly, nobody wants it to be the long term solution but unfortunately based on our previous and current recruiting it's our only option.

quote:Buddy, “underperforming” is what we saw with almost all 5* recruits under Gus Malzahn. Those guys at Alabama aren’t underperforming. They’re, yet again, playing in the SECCG and have a shot at the playoffs. And most will be drafted high while we have guys leaving school early to be on NFL practice squads and in the CFL.

quote:This class, including kids in the transfer portal, is extremely important for Bryan Harsin. We have to get some immediate starters, and we have to get some talented HS kids in…from flips or surprises. The Auburn BOT won’t be happy if we only win 6 games again (3 years in a row) in 2022.

Look at the guys Auburn got from transfers Leota(Really good), Council (solid), Knighten (Serviceable), Kauffman showed improvement, Fair was ok, and Harris was pretty damn good.

Agree. You get guys from UConn, Eastern Illinois etc… that was overlooked. Those r guys making it in the NFL
Don’t get guys from tenn or SC that aren’t playin

The portal sounds nice until you realize that the majority are either 2* guys that did well at tiny schools
What, like Marcus Harris? Eku Leota? Guys who were pivotal in basically eating Bama's lunch for most of the game? Those guys literally "did well" at a big school like Auburn as well. Tony Fair graded out well in the snaps that he played this year.
Star rankings mean frick-all once the player hits the field. Harris isn't a "3-star" (as per the actual output on the field) and on the flip side, guys like D-Rob and Owen Pappoe most certainly aren't "5-stars".
The players that you just described: "2-stars from tiny schools" literally get drafted into the NFL every single year. Jalen Tolbert from South Alabama will get drafted higher than D-Rob - by a lot of picks.
Recruiting rankings aren't based in science. No name players end up at "tiny schools" and become 5-star talents. Just like mid and late round picks in the NFL outperform 1st and 2nd round picks.
You guys routinely underestimate how much real talent is out there at "tiny schools". Mel Tucker's entire success this season is powered by them (hint: that stud RB they have wasn't a 5-star transfer, I dare you to look at his profile). I don't understand this fascination with pretending like the only good players in the country play for the normal "Top 15" schools. Most of the guys we brought in performed in this conference. Were they all All-SEC? No, of course not, but to shite on a guy like Marcus Harris under the pretense that his recruiting ranking from HS still means ANYTHING is asinine.

metafour, love ya man. Wasn’t saying we shouldn’t hit the portal and that there’s not value there. Simply saying it can’t be the well you go to as your main source.
It’s great for filling holes like we did this year on defense. Like you said, some of our best players this year came from it. We just can’t get in a cycle of not recruiting and developing HS talent that leaves us dependent on portal players every year.

KN says FSU is confident. Looks like UGA is moving on from him.

He had a good visit according to 247. Sounds like he knows Robert Woodyard pretty well
But I think we’re running behind FSU, as stated. They’ll probably need to get him back on campus again

KN also says Auburn is beefing up their recruiting department with additional hires. They’re currently searching and interviewing candidates. Sounds like Harsin is learning fast on what needs to be done to be more competitive on the trail

Harsin specifically mentioned recruiting several times in his post game interview last night. Makes sense that they are putting even more resources into it.

Give us all the recruits.

Khurtiss Perry names Auburn his leader.
FWIW, he’s been wearing Auburn gear at his games the past month or so
