Let’s talk outliers. Washington the first year is one of them. Clemson dips out of the top 7 occasionally but only because they don’t often fill their class completely — their average recruit rating is almost always near the top 3. And Oklahoma sometimes sits closer to 10 than 7. Notre dame is right around 7ish when I averaged these all out a few months ago.
As you kind of mentioned but maybe undersold, the difference is those teams aren't competing with Bama, UGA, and LSU just to get into the playoff and we see what happens when they do come up against them. It's usually not pretty.

Jeff Lee War Room:
- Two LB's committed elsewhere set to OV for Miss State game.
- A TE committed elsewhere set to visit for the Iron Bowl.
- Taj Harris, the WR transfer from Syracuse, set to OV for Miss State game.
- Camden Brown, the WR from STA who won MVP at one of our camps is back in the fold - his question mark apparently was/is grades related, and he's having a big season.
- RB Andrew Paul, they're super serious about this kid. Offered on the spot after seeing his midseason highlights. Cadillac is going to be at his next game, and they're in the process of setting an OV.

Are you expecting Auburn to be on par with the levels of recruiting at Bama UGA and LSU? Occasionally, we will be close to LSU but we won't out recruit them typically over the course of several years. Its been that way a while.

Good news on Taj Harris. KN/247 heard the staff wasn’t really active in his recruitment. I wonder if the Clemons news changed that. I felt like we needed a transfer WR regardless

Camden Brown won either WR or offensive MVP at Auburn’s camp this summer. Huge kid.
Paul is interesting. His numbers are really good but his YPC puts him in that high 3*/low 4* zone by 247 standards. My takeaway is how well he moves at 220. A lot of the backs we have on roster are in that 200-205 range and the guy can catch too
I wonder if he leaps over Williams for that RB2 spot this class

I think we absolutely could. Bama and Ga has always been up there, but our lack of consistency and internal strife has been worked against us and allowed others (Clemson) to sneak in.
Consistency, get guys in the league, full support from PTB with the new facilities should get us where we should be - top 8 w/ occasional top 5.
U don’t have to be 1/2/3 but need to get playmakers plus OL/DL

‘23 QB target Christopher Vizzina picked up his 4* on 247. On3 already had him high
I think he’s an easy top 10 guy by this time next season. Has ideal size, athleticism, accuracy, and arm strength. I think competition might hold him back but camps should resolve that

He clearly has. His offer is apparently committable, and Williams doesn't have an offer. This looks like Jarquez Hunter part tow - a clear 4-star or better talent, regardless of where they have him ranked.

No, I'm realistic. But I do think we can, and have to, get to somewhere like a Clemson/FSU/LSU got to where we are close enough so that if we were able to get an All-America type QB we could make a run. Also, being closer would help us actually be able to possibly attract that type of QB.

Good discussion on both sides. An interesting aspect of where we are and where we hope to be:
Quishon Judkins the rb from Pike Valley, I know he committed to Ole Miss, yet we are still flirting with each other at this stage and he is the class of 2022.
On the other hand, we did not hesitate to offer his teammate Anthony Rodgers who is the class of 2025.
In the end it is a balance of the program, good recruiting organization, winning on the field, good coaching, and good recruiters.
Though I will say good coaches that are truly good recruiters are very rare. A gold standard, Bobby Bowden, I watched on TV one Sunday morning, when he was giving a sermon at a church in New Orleans many years ago, my wife said, "isnt that a football coach, what is he doing preaching" I said "honey he aint preachin, he cruitin, and he got every one of those mommas eatin out the palm of his hand".

f-u all
IE: sit back and enjoy the ride
I'm not melting over 6 and 2 with 4 more to go... the sky's still the limit for both arse whippings and recruiting.

How sure are we that he was a good coach and not just a good recruiter?

When Burt's money dried up, FSU recruiting went down. That is no coincidence.
My best friend played there. I had another couple of buddies play there. They were buying players left and right for quite a while. Jamie Dukes, when he was on radio in Atlanta, used to boast that he was called the "mayor". He was the one who got the envelope and passed out the money after the game.

We’re losing recruits to Kensucky now?

Like I said.. we need to hire some recruiters. Not necessarily for on field positions, but we have to bring some people in as analyst or some other arbitrary role.
We are basically down to just Antonio Williams now and as far as I know we still trail Ole Miss for him. There's also Camden Brown I guess, but we're really starting to get into the back up options to the back up options portion of WR recruiting. Even Cam Brown is already committed to Pitt though.

So with this one, KN was saying ~last week that the staff didn't think that he was a culture fit and that they weren't going to push for him. Then yesterday Jeffrey wrote that they were expecting him in for an OV next weekend. That makes me believe that they were recruiting him, but weren't "all in" on him whereas Kentucky obviously was. He just took a visit there and clearly they made their interest felt.
There will be similar WR's entering the transfer portal.
