Great. So Westry is somewhere between Cambridge and Flanagan.

I never once saw Cambridge dribble drive to the basket and his shot was a disaster this past season. Flan is way to dependent on his left hand to get to the basket and ends up running someone over getting there resulting in a charge. Based on highlights I’ve seen Westry will have the second best handles on the team behind KD, but he is way more under control when he drives and is half a foot taller.

You guys need to relax Westry was only like 10 spots behind Phillips in ranking.

I didn’t know he was that close so I will back off a little. Lol.

My post was mainly a poster saying he’ll be our best player next year and that’s hard to velieve.

And if our 2 small guards don’t improve in those areas that hurt us will need more from other areas.

More like 20 spots but Westry should be higher in the rankings according to many experts. He was a consensus 5-star (on3) 6 months ago… high expectations.

After Cambridge pulled some spot duty at the 3 and 4 last year and did some banging down low, I wish Bruce would have put him in that role permanently. He is just one of those players (Barkley, Rodman) that has a knack for grabbing rebounds regardless of size. He ate up the offensive glass as well.

He did well in that role but ideally your 3 is on the wing, not in the paint. If he could have fixed his shot he would have been a very good college player since he played hard and would do the dirty work. Somehow he still managed to have a few games in his career that he got red hot. Wish him the best at ASU.

Cambridge was pretty terrible last year. He did develop his game on the offensive boards which was key in a couple games but other than that he had his worst year

Devan was 19-86 22% from 3. It was time to make a move with him either hit the road or hit the bench. He can be a solid college player but definitely not a jump shooters role. I hope he has a great senior season and find a place to play overseas and make some money

Yeah and his defenders completely sagging off of him and the inability to make them pay really hampered our pick and roll game. It was so ugly. Thankfully Pearl challenged him to find other ways to contribute and he did in a couple key spots. I appreciate his contributions to AU over the past three years and I hope it works out for both Auburn and DC

Imo, we need a shooter to go far in tournament. We won because of defense but fell short because of offense. Our guard play was poor toward the end. No Jared Harper here. The 3 spot was a black hole. AF became a liability. I personally don’t think he will be much better. He seemed lost at times; not only missing shots but horrible ball handling and errant passing. We could use a Bryce Brown type shooter. I hope BP makes it happen

High quality guard play isthe most consistely successful March recipe.

I’m higher on Green and KD than most of you it seems. I think another offseason under Pearl will do a lot of good. However I do agree that a high quality shooting wing still seems to be the missing piece.

I'm optimistic KD will get back to his pre-injury shooting percentage. It will also do wonders for the guards if we are able to have someone on the wing that teams are afraid to leave open, unlike this past year. That threat stretches defenses so much more and should greatly improve shot quality, although I'm still fully expecting a decent amount of logo shots from Wen

I think some are being a little too critical of our guards last year. They were fine early in the season but only having 3 players to eat up 80 minutes a game was too much to ask of their legs. Donaldson should be able to eat some of those minutes and westry has the ball handling skills to add a few as well. I like this team as is

Yeah it was the legs and the lack of spacing that were leading to a lot questionable shot choices as well. Wen was lethal in the pick and roll when we had spacing.

That’s what I’m hoping for. Making the trip to Disney World and planning an Orlando Magic game one night of the trip would be awesome.

Post-lottery projections favor Jabari Smith for No. 1 overall pick

quote:

Here's a look at draft projections and analysis on Smith and his possible fit with each of the top three teams. Of the 10 assessments below, seven had Smith coming off the board with the No. 1 overall pick to Orlando, two had him going second to the Thunder, and one had him landing at No. 3 with the Rockets.

quote:

CBS SPORTS: NO. 1 TO MAGIC

quote:

David Cobb: "Smith's uniqueness as a 6-10 shooter helped him stand out in college basketball. But that skill will be defended more competently at the next level, which will force him to tighten his handle and hone his shot-creation acumen. Defensively, opponents will test the theory that he can guard 1-5 by trying to exploit his slender frame on the block while testing his quickness on the outside. Ultimately, though, all the tools are there, and he would be a solid fit in Orlando."

quote:

THE RINGER: NO. 2 TO THUNDER

quote:

Kevin O'Connor: "Smith will instantly inject some much-needed knockdown shooting and defensive versatility into Thunder’s lineup. And at 6-foot-10 with quickness, he can grow into a positionless weapon. On offense, Oklahoma City can utilize him like a perimeter player running through screens and handoffs to sprint open for 3s or drives to the basket. Playing alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey should open up chances for him to become more of a creator. The Thunder have a lot of exciting players on their young roster, but they need someone who can score at the end of the clock while complementing other creators through a full game."

quote:

SB NATION: NO. 3 TO ROCKETS

quote:

Ricky O'Donnell: "Smith is an elite three-point shooter at 6’10 who will draw serious consideration for the No. 1 overall pick (and might even be the front-runner right now). His deep shooting range and quick release gives him the ability to take and make difficult shots from all over the court. He should be a high-volume and highly accurate shooter behind the arc after hitting 42 percent of his threes in his freshman year at Auburn. Smith is also a good defensive prospect who can step out on the perimeter and hold his own on switches. He probably shouldn’t be relied on to be a full-time rim protecting center in the league, but his strengths defensively — quick feet with a 7’1 wingspan — should fit nicely into where schemes are headed. The worry for Smith is his ability to score inside the arc and create easy looks off the dribble. He made only 43.5 percent of his two-point field goals and finished with nearly as many turnovers (63) as assists (68). Playing with better guards than he did in college will be a big boon for Smith, and if he can improve his handle and his finishing craft he could easily turn into the best player in this class, even if we prefer 2-3 prospects over him at the moment."

quote:

HOOPS HYPE: NO. 1 TO MAGIC

quote:

Michael Scotto: "It was a toss-up between Smith and Holmgren for the top pick, with Smith narrowly winning out. “Jabari’s ability to shoot and spread the floor will be heavily valued by teams,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype after the lottery. “The fallback is Rashard Lewis as a worst-case scenario.” If Orlando selects Holmgren, it could spell the end for Mo Bamba’s tenure with the Magic. Currently, Bamba is No. 16 overall on our HoopsHype 2022 free-agent rankings. Bamba, 24, is eligible for restricted free agency this summer if Orlando extends a $10.1 million qualifying offer."

Magic to take Jabari Smith Jr. at No. 1, Thunder to take Chet Holmgren No. 2 in 2022 NBA Draft, per report

quote:

The Orlando Magic are poised to take Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. The Oklahoma City Thunder would then take Gonzaga big man Chet Holmgren at No. 2 overall, according to the report. Smith is currently -120 at DraftKings Sportsbook to go No. 1 overall.

Givony wrote “most NBA teams firmly believe ... Smith is all but assured to become the top pick.” He also noted there is an “overwhelming expectation” that Holmgren will be the second overall pick to the Thunder.

This line though....
quote:

Smith has been our No. 4 overall prospect behind Purdue guard Jaden Ivey, but there’s certainly a pathway for him to eventually produce top pick value.
