So he's basically delaying his enrollment so that he'd be like a 2018 early enrollee?

Talk on the Alabama board is that Parks will qualify for an academic scholarship and will be able to practice with team as a walkon
The rule is that he would only count as a signee for the year he appears in a game at the varsity level
Edit He has a 4.0 and I guess would qualify for an academic scholarship on his academic merit, which makes it possible

Grey shirting is a recruiting term that is not as commonly used as the term redshirting. A grey shirt is an incoming college freshman who postpones his enrollment in classes until the second term of his freshman year. This means they don’t take classes until the winter term. The NCAA allows college athletes five years to complete four years of eligibility after initial enrollment.
When a grayshirt puts off his enrollment, he’s extending his eligibility past his senior year for another term. Grayshirting is most commonly used in football. By delaying enrollment until the winter after his senior year of high school, a football player can play the fall season one year after his graduation date.

Sounds like bullshite. If that was the rule more people would do it to treat it like a an extra redshirt

So Parks could basically be a walk on. Wow

No. He would not be.
All grey shirting is is delaying enrollment until Jan so he can count against next year's class. He's basically agreeing to be an EE for the '18 class.
There's also less risk of Bama spurning him since he enrolls a couple months before NSD

if he has any scholarship and does any activity with the team, he counts
otoh, he can take an academic scholarship and just act like a reg student

Honestly, he is not coming here, so this is wasted convo.

Looks like we still have a long way to go with earning street cred on the defensive side of the ball. I was hoping last season's performance would help, but I guess not when a kid gets embarrassed by uat and still goes there anyway.

It takes guys going high in the draft to get guys interested. They don't care about defensive metrics, all they want to see is how many first round pics you've put out lately.

And I think his eligibility starts when he is in school. Not sure if he could transfer if he doesn't play at Bama while on academic scholarship and play immediately either.

Pretty sure if he's a regular student at Bama with no participation in the football program that he could transfer anywhere he wanted to and play right away

When grey shirting it gives them 5 years to compete 4.

At least he had the decency to make sure and stock that lake before Bryant's visit.

Gage Batten had an academic scholarship at Auburn. He would only count if he stepped on the field during a game
Someone can correct me if that changed or he gave that up

I don't think they can participate in practice, etc either? I thought as soon as they participated in ANY team activity they count.
