Saban would have walked to Vienna in the rain with a parachute behind his back to get a recruit, amirite?

More like flew his helicopter and landed on the football field.

0% chance Alaric flips. He is as big an Aub as they come.

I saw where Ben Davis talked us up a bit lately and that he seems to like Auburn and Steele both. Any chance there or is there just too much Bama in the kid?

We can't get AU legacies, Auburn fans or Auburn residents to go to Auburn

There is no fricking way an all time great Bama LB's son is coming to AU. Not sure why people think there's a chance

If for some strange reason he doesn't go to Bama, he will go to Georgia.

It is more likely he is keeping things open on the surface so he can announce on tv and get Bama some live signing day pub. I suspect he is already committed behind the scenes.

There's something to be said for going somewhere and starting your own individual legacy... but that takes a certain level of guts and confidence that most high schoolers don't have. Davis may be the exception... but I doubt it.

I'll never knock a kid for making a decision he feels is best for him

I actually know this kid very well. From my hometown. He will probably some looks from SEC schools once he starts going to some camps. Sylacauga doesn't produce a lot of talent so whenever a good player actually comes through they normally don't get noticed (TJ Green for Clemson is a prime example).

I don't think Davis is "playing us" but making an informed decision.

If he wants to start anew and build his own legacy, there are 100+ programs not Auburn, your dad's bitter rival, to do it at

True... but those 100 other programs don't have a coach on staff he has a relationship with.

I don't get the impression he's playing us either.

I hate that walk on scholarships count towards signing count.

If someone has spent 1 year as a walkon in your program, they shouldn't count towards your yearly scholarship limit. Teams with extra scholarships with no open spots can't give these deserving kids free education

That's not who BD is. By all accounts he is a class young man. Yes he is committing on ESPNU on NSD but it's not for an agenda to pump Bama. He's a big dog recruit & ESPN wants as many big dog recruits making their commitments on the U as they can get regardless of who the recruits choose.

I didn't attack the kid's character. If my hypothesis is accurate, I don't see anything wrong with him doing so. I suspect most big time programs hold a public commit or two back to get some nsd coverage.

Sure, but they want the ones who aren't publicly uncommitted.

Just so everyone knows why Gene is randomly talking about this JLee just posted in TWR that he expects walk on P Kevin Phillips to go on scholly soon. When that happens he has to count to a yearly 25 Initial Counter limit, likely 2016 in this case. The NCAA rule is for any player to not count against a 25 IC limit they have to walk on 2 years before going on scholly regardless if they come from HS, Juco, or another FBS or FCS school.

Also JLee expects us to sign 23 & not 25 for 2016, leaving room to count KP & also have a spot open to bring in a grad transfer as they have to count to an IC limit too as Countess did last year.

Gotcha. My bad. So many view it as a negative that I thought you were too.
