This was discussed about a week ago and everyone (except me) was in agreeance that we do not want because he sucks and he's injury prone and played in a shite conference.
Arkansas seems to be in play for his services now. That will be a huge upgrade from their shite qb now.

Have you counted seniors as leaving? Cause we have a ton.

That's not why I don't want him. We are rock solid at the QB position. Why bring him in, and possibly divide the team, when QB is not a position of need?

Yep.

Right now I count 85 players on scholly for next year if you count current commits and assuming no one goes pro
ETA: 82 - left off Matthews

If he is on the team next year, I would assume Duke and Sammie go pro, and Gus wants the option to run zone read again.

That would kill QB recruiting in the future. Why come to a school where you put in two or three years of work, and the HC consistently brings in a JUCO or transfer and plays him?

Because QB is the hardest position to predict. Gus has stated he is about winning now. JJ and White are unproven, and the more QBs on the rostor, the higher % of one taking the job, and winning. We are a QB driven offense. It is just like Saban stock piling LBers. He knows he is no good if a few fail to perform.

JJ is hardly "unproven". If that is your stance, then why recruit any HS QBs at all? Why not just take some transfer every single year?

Has JJ played a full season?

You do realize that JJ started the first half of the Arkansas game? The same half in which he passed for more yards and points than any other team vs Arkansas all year? Everytime JJ has come in, he has not only succeeded but excelled.
Also, if you are arguing that Braxton Miller could run a new offense he has no exposure too better than Jeremy, who has been here for 2 years, you are crazy.

Neither has Braxton Miller it seems like
ETA: The fact that every qb that has come in relief for Braxton Miller has succeeded shows that it is a system effect at play. He is talented but not nearly as much as the system looks.
Urban Meyer hsa made above average QBs look great since he was at Utah

Braxton Miller has missed roughly 20 games in 4 years at Ohio State. He is dynamic with his feet, but nothing special through the air. If he can't stay healthy against those defenses, how can we expect him to stay healthy against SEC defenses?
Also, this would likely cause Jeremy Johnson to transfer out.

No, but he's played enough snaps to show that there is obvious ability there, including tearing up Arkansas' defense (which now looks strong) for half a game. He is a better QB than Braxton Miller.

I do. My point, IF Duke and Sammie go pro, our passing could take a hit. I was making a point why having Miller could help. It would give us options. Some of you get your jimmies rustled too easy.

His backups typically open up the "Will Braxton start when he comes back argument" all the time. It is a system clearly. If he was that good he wouldn't lose his starting job

JJ is not proven. He's played one half of real football. I feel like he'll be very good but it's no where close to a sure thing. Getting more QBs increases your chances of having a good one.

That is the philosophy on recruiting not transfers. When you have a QB transfer in normally the heir apparent transfers out.

He isn't proven but there is no reason to believe that he isn't going to be at least solid.

Correct. Kodi Burns was "proven" after the Chick-fil-a bowl. We all know how that turned out.

quote:Good, then let's recruit them and not let them transfer in for one season (not talking about from Junior College here)...unless they are of Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, etc, caliber. Not some guy that can't stay healthy and is expected to come in and run a read-option offense in the SEC. Not a guy that has missed roughly 20 games in 4 seasons. Not a guy that would have to learn a whole new offense while Jeremy Johnson and Sean White already have more time in it.

It's just too risky. Auburn would risk losing Jeremy Johnson to transfer, and maybe even Sean White - although that is unlikely.
