All of our OL targets, minus a select few, seem to be pretty lowly/averagely ranked.
Respectfully disagree. Of the 27 know OL offers out by AU for 2015 2 are 5*s, 18 are 4*s, and 7 are 3*s. We had 21 known OL offers out in 2014 and 8 were 3*s.

Guys we're looking alright to get, going by composite:

Tyler Carr- low 4*, may move down after bad camp
Dallas Warmack- low 4*
Bailey Sharp- 3*
Garrett Thomas- 3*
Venzell Boulware- 3*
Marquel Harrell- 3*
George Brown- 3*
Kaleb Kim- low 4*
James Daniels- 3*
Nick Wilson- low 4*

Outside of Drew Richmond, Martez Ivey, and Javon Patterson (we'd be lucky to get one of these), no elite rated guys. A lot of those guys I listed are good players, I'm not complaining, I'm just curious as to why they aren't that highly thought of by the services...

May just be a down year for OLs. There are only 9 (8 OT 1 OG) OLs in the Southeast rated a mid 4* or higher in the class. Also ratings go up as more evals are done on each prospect many. Remember this is a fairly young part of the ratings for the 2015 class. Most of the big overall camps all of the BIG teams camps have not even happened yet. Those places are were most of the ratings get refined for the first time and that refinement continues with senior film and more evaluators looking at recruits as their senior season progresses. Sharp is one expected to go up quite a bit.

Tyler Carr's athleticism doesn't fit that mold.

i don't know enough about him to make a determination... but one thing is for certain with Malzahn's offense, it puts a premium on athleticism at the OL position. There is nowhere hide with no inline TEs and the pace of play. Carr might be better suited for a run heavy pro-style offense like Bama or Arkansas. He's an aggressive run blocker.

Yeah, it's April. I'm not all the concerned by their current rating. More times than not they move up, especially a high 3*. If it were Oct./Nov. and all we were on were 3*, I'd be worried.

Higher than last year's tackles but lower than last year's guards. Also, as I edited in that post this is a very young part of the eval cycle for the 2015. All that stuff gets refined.

As Jonesy has said before, The only rankings he puts any stock in is the last one because that's when all info has been gathered and class has been evalled as much as possible.

I would not even be then. Sites are still going through mid season film for many kids at that point.

I said worried, not freaking out.. The majority will get a bump before that point through camp performances.

Didn't Shon Coleman start out as a 3* on rivals the spring before he signed and he was a 5* by the time Feb came around?

yep.

and some guys never get bumped... chance warmack was a 3 star guard out of GA... he turned into one of the best (if not the best) college guards of the last decade. Alex Kozan was another 3 star.

where a OL ranks means less than probably most positions.

4 star on Rivals & ESPN. 3 star on Scouts and 247.

Just like Mix actually.

I would say its mainly because a lot of these guys are OG/OC which are rarely rated very high.

I liked Mix coming out of HS more than Kozan based on athleticism. Kozan still has some strength/athleticism limitations but I heard he is doing better this spring. In his defense he hasn't had a ton of time in a college S&C

I love the future of our OL though. I don't see Kozan, Patrick Miller or Shon Coleman jumping to the league and AY at OG makes me feel like he would stay too.

We would return 4/5 starts along the OL two years in a row. That would be scary

How many 3* OL are there any given year? I know we can find exceptions, but the fact is the odds are vastly in your favor signing 4/5* players, regardless of position.
