It was not a surprise visit. LSU reporters are just calling a surprise visit. In reality He had that visit planned for a while. Nothing new. As of a month ago he planned to visit there on July 14th. Just moved it back. As KK said though on twitter if you're not 100% committed and trying to recruit others, it's tough to really sell uncommitted guys on AU. We need guys to be solid with us

So I guess LSU is the source of Thorton's strange tweets from a few days ago?... I sorta thought the push was coming from FSU/Pruitt. LSU can certainly sell the DE position based on this past draft, but AU had an End taken pretty early and Garner has as good a track record as any when it comes to DL and the draft.
regardless, a lot of our recruiting pitch right now is talk and/or stuff that took place somewhere other than Auburn (especially defensively)... bottom line is we gotta prove it.

It's these situations that really make you appreciate those like Carl Lawson.
Unfortunately many of these kids come from unstructured and often impoverished backgrounds and lack the understanding and maturity needed to handle being constantly hounded by coaches and reporters. It's also unfortunate that many high school coaches don't do a better job of mentoring their kids through the process.

From Rivals article today, so
quote:
Following his commitment in May, Thornton maintains he's as firmly entrenched with the Tigers' class than ever before.
"I'm handling it nice," Thornton said. "I'm solid to Auburn and and I'm not paying much attention to other schools. I'm focusing on my last year and I haven't put any official visits together yet. I'll think about that after the season. I'm solid though, I'm loyal to Auburn."

A couple of things from LSU's tidbits. Thornton is still pretty firmly committed to Auburn and as most of us know he does have academic issues.

Hoke seems to think we lead for Lambert. It was a magical OV.

He probably is just reposting what I have been writing since that OV. He's a little late on that

I was a little surprise we didn't go ahead and have him OV this past week... knowing good and well his decision would likely be made prior to the season (he was said to be OVing for a game this fall)... or maybe he decided to go to Neb over us, IDK.
just struck me as a little strange... and apparently that bama offer wasn't as big of a deal as some thought it was.

Our staff had already set in motion the steps to host an OV. We didn't have anything to do with him cancelling

Maybe the experts just changed their projections to FL because Lambert eliminated UGA, the thought leader, and they think FL was second.

E pointed out that the UGA mods moved from UGA -> Auburn-> UF
So people were thinking AU then something changed

Abu Lamin will take one more OV even though he's committed and it's to UA. I can see the ol' ball coach trying to stop that trip already

"Rashaan and Reuben Foster talk periodically and they have a very good relationship," Alan said. "Reuben is really excited about showing him around Tuscaloosa and I'm sure he'll continue to try and talk Rashaan in to joining him at Alabama. I'm not sure what kind of factor that will be to Rashaan but it's always good to have a friend around."

"Rashaan is very interested to see how Auburn and Tennessee look on the field this season," Alan said. "I think he wants to see that they are headed in the right direction and how far away they might be from being competitive programs in the SEC again."
