Just wondering, is Gus wanting a pro-style QB rather than a duel threat? Our offers are indicating that.

I have always been under the impression that he would rather have a pro style qb but it works with a duel threat

I could be wrong, but I think Gus had a pro style qb at Tulsa when he had the #1 ranked offense. I don't feel like looking it up though

the guy from Harding's high school, Justice Hansen, as pretty good wheels... he's not cam newton or anything, but he's got enough athleticism to take on lineman and run read-option plays effectively.

Watson is probably a pipe-dream... and the other guy is from Norman, OK... no way one of the top QBs in the country doesn't end up at OU.

Yes, but he was working with what he had on the roster when he got there.

His offense can work with either. Ideally, however, it is most effective with a QB who can be dangerous both passing AND running because this gives the offense the most diversity with regards to what the defense has to be prepared for. Of course; finding a QB who is both a plus passer and a plus runner isn't exactly easy.

There is absolutely a misconception however that his offense "NEEDS" a running quarterback to work, which was thrown around back when we were sucking with Trotter and Moseley.

Just need the qb to be a 5 yard read option threat. Minimum above average athleticism think Dante Culppepper speed. Not a burner but can move

Draequon Murphy said in his interview last night that Auburn would win 9-10 games and the SECC this coming season.

Im jumping on the Justice Hansen bandwagon... don't know what kinda shot we have at him, but from his highlights, I think he'd fit Malzahn's offense -- throws a good deep ball and has some mobility.

Id say perfer on needs. Hell in 2009 Gus was running the option with Chris Todd. Everybody knew Todd was going to pitch it to Tate, yet it still worked.

Never thought Id see the day where I missed Chris Todd.

Against top defenses you need someone with more mobility than Todd. Granted, increased passing ability can be on a sliding scale with mobility

The perceived threat to be able to make a first down is all you need. Andrew Luck is a great pocket quarterback but he is made better having the ability to run for the first down even though he isn't a real threat to run for a 50 yarder.

In my opinion, a quarterback should be a passer first and if they have the ability to run that is great. If Wallace, Frazier, marshall, Johnson or Smith can prove to throw the ball accurately, play them.

I made the point of 5 yards to say that our read options average around 5 yards/carry and if the defense does not defend the QB it is a first down.

Frazier and accuracy is like saying Jay Jacobs and competent. Only should be togetber if there is a not in between
