It would be irrational to believe that with the level of dominance demonstrated by Alabama in recent years coupled with a recruit being a Bama fan all his life that if he got a committable offer we would be able to sway him unless Bama slights the kid or some other big issue with Bama comes up (degree program, serious depth chart concerns, change in coaches or other things). It really depends on the degree of his fan support.
An old roommate of mine's little brother is a 6'2-6'3 sophomore QB in MS and lead his team to the state championship with good stats. He is a huge Mississippi State fan. He has early conversations with both state schools but reality is, he is Mississippi State's to lose if they offer.
Reality is, in state with a large number of players, we have an uphill battle to fight. Luckily we have great recruiters on staff, an open depth chart and a great school environment. Doesn't change reality that we have to out recruit Bama on the majority of prospects which is hard when they have some good recruiters themselves.

Also, my friend who is really close with Kirby Smart's family said that the expectation is for Kirby to leave after this year as long as he succeeds to some degree.
He is a stellar recruiter and will shake some defensive commitments and prospect's confidence. We should stand to benefit

Looked at the Crystal Ball Predictions for him today. Even the CEO of 247 has predicted him to Clemson...I'd never seen him way in on a recruit before

I wonder what decent vacancies there will be for him next year. Does he want to cut his teeth in a lower tier conference first, or take the biggest available opportunity?

He wants a big-time gig, and I doubt he leaves until it comes open.

One could look at it like that. I was wondering if GenesChin had any insight since he's closer to the situation than most of us. Thanks though

Good point, I'd like to see what he says as well.

Look take all this for what is worth. These are all people I know who have family connections. That said, things are always "fluid"
He wants to be big. Two things at play though, first is that Saban plans on leaving for the NFL. Friend of mine's grandfather who was on the board of trustees for Alabama for 18 years told me that it is the expecation of their big boosters that he has plans for the NFL. Another friend's dad is a VP at a major sponsor for Bama athletics and seems to agree.
Friend who know's Smart's family seems to believe that Saban is waiting for Belichick to leave New England and to go up there. Considering their run a near identical Fairbanks-Bullough 3-4 defensive system (they pioneered the 3-4 together when they coached on the same staffs)
He said that a major reasons Smart did not come to AU is the hope that the door to take over when Saban steps down stays open. Saban talked to the Browns and if he left, Smart takes over. If Smart doesn't perform wherever he goes to a high level, he won't be a serious candidate. If he leaves and in 2 years Saban leaves, he won't have time to turn a program around unless they have talent on roster.
I am interpreting what my friend interpreted so analysis could not be spot on. That said, he is looking for a place he can win at early on a big stage, not necessarily "prestige." I mean Miami has some prestige but their situation is a shithole for instance.
In my mind I always view it as a at worse, U Virginia type situation. A place with access to talent, decent talent on roster, in a situation in the ACC where they could win right away with a good coach.

We were talking about Jakell Mitchell being a bama fan and getting an offer by them and how it was difficult to sway recruits who fit that profile.
I mentioned that Smart may be leaving which wcould be good for us with defensive recruits. People asked why
I said what I have heard.
Ellitor is being a positiger while the rest of us are being negabarner/negawareagles/negatiger.
Usual shite

I prefer the term "negabarner"

Negawarplainsmeneagletiger is the preferred nomenclature.

McDowell said he's looking to continue to build relationships with Auburn's coaches when he visits for Big Cat Weekend, but he's already well acquainted with his lead recruiter, Dameyune Craig. it's going to come down to him being a bama fan vs. us recruiting much harder for a longer period of time. We've been on Mitchell for a while, and it would suck to lose out on him at this point, IMO.
Recruits (for the most part) couldn't care less how long a certain school has been recruiting them if they grow up a fan of another school.
