We should red shirt Roc.

We will have CAP, Grant, Ford, and Barber...and maybe Tre.

No reason to waste a year on him.

If Tre is back, I agree 100%

You don't redshirt a back like Roc.

You shouldn't red shirt a potential star, period.I see this suggested over and over again regarding various players. It works for the players that are simply above average, but Racean Thomas will be going to the NFL early if he produces. There isn't a need to waste a year of him on a red shirt.

If Tre leaves then I agree. If he stays, I think it would be a waste of a year of eligibility for Roc if they don't redshirt him. The push will be for Tre to win the Heisman and Doak Walker next year if he comes back. With Williams coming in, I don't think Tre will get as many touches as he did this year which will make his numbers look worse. With CAP and Grant behind him with more experience, I just see Roc as the clean up man.

FWIW, I think Tre is gone so redshirting Roc won't even be up for debate.

I guess the reasoning behind it is being able to disguise the play by having a receiver in the slot instead of Grant which makes it obvious but imo Louis is awful at running the jet sweep.

Sure he'll break a big run every now and then but I've never seen anyone who will not cut up the field when that is clearly where the hole is. How many times has our receiver sealed his man outside but Louis still tries to run around the block which usually just results into him running into his own blocker or out of bounds?

I always thought he was good with it. He averaged 11 yards per carry, fwiw.

I expect to see Roc returning kickoffs and possibly punts next year as well to supplement his touches per game. He won't redshirt unless he gets hurt.

Roc won't be returning kicks IYAM. Not that he wouldn't be good at it but IMO DQ/Truitt are more likely.

I knew this was coming and I get your point but honestly outside of 2010 (when he was very effective) there were no holes for him to run through. His only chance was to get outside. Louis doesn't have that problem but he creates it for himself.

Well, on many of those jet sweeps, they are told to go a certain distance out wide before cutting up. It is similar to the old school stretch plays.

Roc needs to put on a little more bulk, especially lower body, to get a lot of carries next year. If he got hurt a couple times in high school, he'll never make it through the SEC.

Roc had a sprained ankle... that's got nothing to do with bulk. Gurley is one of the thickest/toughest RBs in the country, but he still rolled his ankle and missed games.

I don't think anyone is expecting Thomas to come in and get the amount of carries Mason was getting this year, but we're going to get him the ball... he's the best back the state's produced since Cadillac.

Only thing I'm not crazy about is this possibly pushing Andrew Williams away.
That will not push him away. We recruited Lambert as a DT.

Stewart??? You mean Eric smith? I don't think Stewart was here when malzahn got here.

Eta: I hope not. I want him to get some carries. He is a beast.

I loved me some Carl Stewart. He killed it on those wheel routes.

Carl Stewart role? We run a completely different offense now.
