I don't have a problem with us passing on L Johnson. This staff needs to get the recruits they want. Sucks for the kid, but it's business.

That's the whole point. This staff has no idea if they'll get any of the JUCO guys they're going after, and for us to just drop a kid at a position of need is ridiculous.

We now have 1 defensive back committed for this class. That's not going to get it done.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of JUCO linemen. He would be a nice pick up. Hutchinson has been good to us.

Seems like JUCO lineman are a little easier to predict and offer immediate help. Don't see why we haven't taken any in recent year considering our OLine trouble

De'Runnya Wilson received real offer today from Auburn. Report from al.com on an offer last week was incorrect....Also Hooks is expected in Auburn around 5:30 today.

Auburn should hire you to recruit for them off of Rivals and 24/7 beecause that worked really well the last 4 years.

If the staff didn't contact him to say anything other than he can't enroll early then its pretty clear to me that the staff didn't really see the kid in our future plans for the defense. You assholes bitch and gripe about the sort of players we have on the team currently yet cry when we lose commitments from the staff that recruited the players you're bitching about.

You guys are just bitching to bitch now.

I'll wait to see who comes on early before I dog Gus out.

Stuff like this happens all the time with coaching changes. Gus seems set on helping this team win next year and I like it the idea.

Roof said that Chizik felt like JUCO recruits shouldn't be a priority in recruiting unless they were game changers. As explained to me, Chizik felt like recruiting JUCO guys hurt relationships with high school coaches. Also heard that Luper and Chizik decided that they'd stay away from JUCO because of how heavily Tuberville's staff leaned on it.

Do you guys think we are going after so many JUCOS because Gus knows our players are underdeveloped and need immediate help?

Seems pretty reasonable. Can't argue with the logic

We all know our D needs help. JUCO will fill our needs over the next year or two. I also expect more transfers after spring. Some feelings will be hurt.

I take this flip as a positive for us. We clearly did not highly value this commitment.

6:00 pm update: It now appears very unlikely Lavon Hooks will visit Auburn tonight. He's back from his Washington visit but with the weather and long trip this weekend, he's not up to driving to Auburn. I'd say there's very little chance of him signing with Auburn Wednesday.

I don't believe Za'Darius Smith has or will visit Auburn but can't say that with 100% certainty at this time.

The dead period begins at midnight tonight meaning no face-to-face contact on or off campus with recruits. It runs through Jan. 3. Coaches may still speak with recruits over the phone during the dead period.

So that takes care of Hooks, Za'Darius, and Sanders visited USCe this weekend instead of us. We're hoping for Danzey to commit -- per EDW uh-hmm -- on Christmas....so basically this JUCO plan needs tweaking over the dead period. Get some fugging coaches while you do so, Gus!

Who cares, Malzahn obviously didn't want Johnson.

Tweak it? What did u expect with only a couple weeks on the job? As stated earlier, chizik and co didn't recruit Jucos so there's no prior relationship at all. We may sign the guard and will sign Payne. Not sure what people were expecting

I think this kid is their stud backer. I think he was supposed to be in the 6-1 205 to 210 range so I think that is where they are leaning for the hybrid position.
