Correct me if i'm wrong but NF had in impact late in the 2009 season against Alabama and Northwestern.

McNeal played pretty well last year...

No he did not. He was always taking the wrong angle. Writing was on the wall when he was pulled from the Bowl Game last year. Plus he is not that smart and cannot learn the new D.

Truuu...

Played well in 2010 on special teams, along with Craig Sanders, they had every tackle between the two of them.

Also , I would love to see a few series with bates, nova, and frost at LB. just see what happens.

It couldn't get much worse... And I'm not trying to just be pessimistic. It just literally can't get much worse

Me too...

But I must say, Holland played pretty well the other night except for letting Ellington go on that long one.

None of the LB's attacked the line of scrimmage on runs. They all seemed to play back on their toes. That had a lot to do with some of their poor pursuit angles.

I wasn't as worried about the defense, because I thought we would see talent like Therezie,Florence,Frost, etc. starting. I got a bad feeling when they announced guys like White,Smith & Evans, etc. would be starters.

Yep. It really has me questioning the recruiting efforts we've had the last couple of years.....

So, by everyone's reactions in here, I guess I should just go ahead and look forward to next year? All our players suck, the world's ending, etc.

TIA

I don't understand why we can't develop a quality LB. It seems like we always have these projects, but so far none have made an impact. I just don't recall this being a problem in the past. Karlos Dansby was a freaking WR in high school and it didn't take Tubbs 3 or 4 years to develop him. At some point these projects need to see the field and gain experience so they can develop.

Just some things I'd like to see on defense...

1) I want Kris Frost to see some PT at linebacker. It's not like it would hurt anymore than the trio of Bates/Evans/Holland.
2) I want Cassanvoa McKinzy to see some PT at linebacker. See #1.
3) I want to see some of Erique Florence at safety. Injuries set him back, but he's the 2nd most talented safety we have behind Jermaine Whitehead. We need to get this talent ready. And we all saw Ryan Smith wiff on more than a couple runs.
4) I want to see Robenson Therezie at cornerback. I didn't necessarily see bad play out of the corners, but I look at Ryan White as the weak link. Plus, I just think Robenson Therezie is a badass.

All of it looked like correctable mistakes. I don't know why it seems everyone expected us to play like the '85 bears against Clemson's offense. We were going to have trouble with them. First, because Chad Morris is a helluva coach and will be a HC sooner rather than later. Second, because we are implementing a new defense. I wanted to see improved play from last year. Which I did. Despite all this terrible D, a couple plays go our ways instead, Auburn beats a top 15 team to open the season.

ETA: I feel much better about this season than I did after the 1st 3 quarters of last year's opening game.

Holland had the one pretty big hit on Ellington right at the line of scrimmage. I wasn't to see more of that, I miss hard nosed, pounding defense.

From a defensive standpoint, I agree.

I'm not sure what to think of the offense right now. Some of Frazier's passes were just flat out terrible...but he has time to get better. Hopefully we utilize his running ability a lot more against State. We need to control the ball against them.

Exactly. It's been on game. Against one of the better offenses in the country.
