We are upset because Gus has a shitty offense and it is his responsibility to make sure that our offense is executing on all cylinders and it is Gus’s system that is keeping up from making the playoffs. The reason why we are ranked #11 is because of our defense which Gus doesn’t have any involvement in.

Okay, I am frustrated with the offense too. But Gus 100% gets credit for fielding a championship caliber defense. He is the head coach, he hired Steele and T-Will, let’s them do their job, and signs off on any recruit. It’s more perplexing that the offense is weakness, but as the head coach he gets credit for hiring and instilling a dominant defense too.

Would everyone agree that Lincoln Riley is a superior offensive mind than Gus currently? Well he just gave up 48 points and lost to Kansas State. Could LR consistently beat Alabama, LSU, and UGA? We would be just as mad if Gus was putting up 50 points in these games, but couldn’t field a defense. In the SEC West, with our schedule, you have to be consistently dominant on both sides of the ball to compete. In order to win our division, we usually have to be the best team in the country, there is zero room for error.

I’m not even advocating for Gus, it’s frustrating that he can’t seem to learn from his mistakes and fix his side of the ball to get us 24 points in a big game where defense balls out. But the fix is to find a top 5 coach in the country, which isn’t easy as some make it sounds.

Hell hire Joe Brady and make him keep the defensive staff in place, what he's done with lsu in a year is amazing

In 2014 would anyone have been ok with keeping EJ? Honest question...even Gus knew when it was time to fire the problem. It wasn't completely on the players.

In 2019 the problem isn't the players. We might not have a top 5 O but with the talent on the team we should easily be a top 40 O and probably undefeated with the D our PTB forced Gus to hire.

Gus fumbled Auburn University.
He should get flagged before the game even starts for being on the Auburn sideline.

you need a lapdog of a HC to make that work, and that's not really an insult to O

he knows his limitations and where he needs help

Amen. And the closest we've been to this recently is 2017. We were very good on both sides of the ball. But then, one too many injuries and one too many tough games in a row erased our margin for error.

He should be fired for his failure to produce a QB alone. I wouldn't let my son play QB under him at AU for any amount and I'm sure Papa NIx is looking for an exit strategy to save his son from Gus. This Nix legacy is bigger than Gus and has a lot of big backers. Keep that in mind when the coaching rumors start.

Kevin Steele was recruited and brought on board by people above Gus. He has little to no interest in the defense, which is probably why that side of the ball isn't a complete mess.

Here's a logic question for you: why is it that when its time to bring in a DC, we can let our nuts hang and bring in huge names like Muschamp and Steele and pay them AAA salary, yet when its time to bring in a key member to the offensive staff its...some highly under qualified hire from a mid-major who will basically just stand there and nod happily at Gus' request?

You'd have to be a complete idiot to believe that Will Muschamp and Dillingham were "hired" by the same person LMAO.

Oh look another Nix militant.

Daddy Nix knew Gus was the coach before his kid signed, just stop already.

Well, I've already been called an idiot on this forum today, so...

It's totally believable to me. Gustav knows his limitations when it comes to defense, so he hires the best candidate available at the time. Even Ellis Johnson had a pretty good reputation as a DC when he hired him in '13.

At the same time, he "knows" offense, so the mindset is probably "I'll bring in some young guy who will listen to what I tell him as I impart my genius philosophy". I can totally see that as why we end up with Boom and Steele as DCs and Lindsey and Dilly as OCs.

We should be sitting 10 spots ahead at #1 right now imo, so yea there is a reason for the bitching. We go through this insanity almost every freaking year and most of us are fed up. Change is good!!!

Kevin Steele’s brother is in the AD as an associate AD of something. I think most of his family is in Alabama these days and he didn’t seem to like LSU according to their news outlets. I don’t think it was much of a recruitment effort. They’re two peas in a pod. Gus helps Steele stay away from the media and Steele gets complete authority over the defense.
