Falcons are in the right here. Not their fault your agent lowballed the contract negotiation that just happened. Show up or don’t get paid.

Yep. Signing a 5 yr deal was dumb knowing that many guys were due to get new deals in that time frame

It's safe to say that reputation is toast.

I'm actually curious of the scenarios left to play out:
1) He holds out until the season and skips games. Believe he is HEAVILY penalized each game he holds out.
2) He holds out until right before the season and the falcons pay him.

Those really seem like the only 2 scenarios left in play here. Am I wrong?

Maybe he holds out until the regular season then plays out his contract because he wants to get paid. Falcons have most of the leverage here. They’ve pretty much said they will renegotiate after this season

He doesn't get paid if he doesn't play. His guaranteed money is out.

Yep.

For every day he misses training camp, he has to pay a fine (I seem to remember it being 40 or 60k per day missed).

For every game he misses, he just simply doesn't get the paycheck.

The thing about the training camp fines is that the Falcons would have to invoke that penalty. Meaning, they could tell Julio that they will not fine him in good faith, or something along those lines.

Do we get that back on the Salary Cap? Doubtful but that would give the Falcons a lot of leverage.
At least... until we lost that 1st game.

I would just trade him. Should be able to get a decent haul for a top flight receiver that would make any team instantly better. Our receiving core would take a hit but Julio has become a me first cancer and needs to go. I’d be happy to get a couple first rounders or some good pieces and a good draft pick out of him.

Not gonna happen. At least not in 2018.

The Atlanta Falcons and star receiver Julio Jones are working to resolve the contract differences that have had Jones planning to hold out of training camp, team and league sources told ESPN.

Update

quote:

We have had continued dialogue all offseason with Julio and his representation. We have come to an agreement with Julio, and we will re-address everything in 2019. I appreciate everyone’s hard work and communication on this. This adjustment does not impede us from working on other extensions with other key members of our football team. We will continue to work on those contracts going forward.”

Julio got an additional $2 mill guaranteed and got the GM on record saying they are committed to reworking Julio’s contract for 2019 when it has 2 years left on it. Actually not too shabby by Julio.

I'm fairly confident that DQ and TD were prepared to make this offer back in the spring, but there's no point in doing it right away when you can just wait and see if Julio would blink. He didn't, really, so you give him the offer.
