Should have around 17-19 mil as of right now. Around 5.5 will go to rookie contracts. Maybe we will save a little money once we sign Matt to a long term deal.
I would think we bring in at least one DE/DT and draft another. Maybe a decently cheap guard, but no big splash really.

Eagles nab Bennett for cheap. That DL is gonna be sick

Maybe but he's older and they gave up a WR and a 5th (depth) for them. Also, if he gets beat by Olines, he seems to cry, piss and moan.

Levitre's contract was restructured today. Should free up more cap room to go after a free agent DT or guard. We'll probably also draft at least one of each

What's interesting is what we do in FA greatly impacts our 1st round pick. To me, ideally would like to get a good G or plug-and-play Olineman in FA and then get Da'Ron Payne in 1st round. Not sure he'd fall to us though, probably doubtful.
If we go after a DT in FA, I think that conceded that we are NOT going DT in 1st round and instead would get... BPA? I dunno?

My guess is we sign a guard and draft a DT. Quinn's MO appears to be draft young talent on defense and coach it up while relying on a veteran offense. Levitre's restructuring adds 2.5M in cap space.
Of course, the Falcons could also swing in the opposite direction by signing someone like Mohammed Wilkerson and drafting Isaiah Wynn (or Will Hernandez if he falls to us). I do not believe Vea or Payne will be there at 26 and we'd be looking at someone like Taven Bryan if we're drafting DT.
ETA: It's going to be really interesting to watch this unfold.

I think after you said that, I want this to occur now. Who knows though, this is all a crap shoot.

We'll see. If we aren't keeping Clayborn and Poe, and now that we missed out on Bennett, our DL depth, regardless of position, is pretty poor.
I could see us draft a DT and sign a DT in free agency. Not all FA signings are "big signings".
For you UGA fans, what's the story with John Jenkins? He's available and has bounced around, so I'm guessing he hasn't been worth a shite, but I honestly don't know. It seems like UGA fans are always wanting the Falcons to go after their guys, but I haven't heard this chatter regarding Jenkins. That tells me he wouldn't be worth going after, even for positional depth.

Never lived up to his immense talent, even in college.

Supposedly, Hernandez is the real deal at guard. Draft people basically describe him as a nasty, mean, strong son of a bitch who just demolishes whatever is in his path.
If he's there at 26, I'd take him over Wynn. His highlight tape is insane, and that includes a game against Oklahoma where he was just blowing people off the ball

He was a great nose tackle in college. Unfortunately, injuries and lack of depth on the DL pushed him to DE where he just wasn't as effective at UGA.
I don't know a thing about him in the NFL. But a player who can't play multiple roles in a defense is a liability, normally, in the league.

looking at a few mocks today have us taking a DT in the 1st. One has Da'Ron Payne and the other is Taven Bryan.

Payne is at the very top of my draft wish list

There are a couple of idiot mocks that have us taking a safety. I immediately disregard those.
My wish list is:
-Trade up for Vita Vea (he's currently at 17 on the cbs mock). Trading up is a staple for Dmitroff, although this would be a large (and costly) jump and probably unrealistic
-Payne (would probably require a move up as well, although cbs has us taking him at our current spot)
-Will Hernandez (cbs has him going to Carolina at 24)
-sigh....the kid from UGA

I heard they just did a 2nd round tender for Ricardo Allen (expected) and Ben Garland (somewhat of a surprise). Will have to see what the contracts are but I think this could free up some $$$ right at the signing period.
Will be curious to see what, if anything, Atlanta does Wednesday evening, Thursday and Friday.
