I think that article alluded to white suburbia not exactly being home to a lot of grown-up Hawks fans... but noted that the young fans are in love the with guy.
I love all of my Atlanta teams, and would be over the moon for a title. I think the Hawks with this core (and my gosh, ownership) can actually do it someday.
Us 90s kids with the Braves enjoyed baseball’s last stand as a true power sport in the nation, and it was awesome.
But it’s long been known that the younger demographic far prefers basketball to baseball, and shockingly enough, has eaten into football’s market share.
I hope that Trae and the squad can give Atlanta the national recognition it deserves these next few weeks. Going to be a fun series against a really gritty Knicks squad.
Feels like 1999 again with the Braves and Mets going at it and the Hawks and Knicks in the playoffs.
frick NY.

Go watch the Webber Sacramento vs the Lakers with Kobe and Shaq or do some research on what happens when the NBA wants a winner.
I'm aware of this. I believe the NBA wanted to make sure that series got to 7 games because the rest of the playoffs had been warmed over dogshit that season. Game 6 of that series was very fishy. Once it got to Game 7, I don't think there was any real influence on who won.
The only time I've ever watched a series and believed the league wanted to actually determine the winner (instead of lengthen the series like Tim Donaghy said the league wanted in that Lakers/Kings series) was the 2006 NBA Finals between the Mavs and the Heat. Dallas was clearly the better team but there was some absolute frickery in those three games in Miami.

The foul on Mike Bibby won the game for the Lakers and Mike Bibby got ran over by Kobe. There were other fouls in that game specifically that were down right unbelievable but that one was just pure non sense and you can't criticize the NBA even if your watching a game get called in a very one sided fashion. Small market teams don't make the NBA money the way a large market team does. If a coach - former player is bringing it up to his team - that means he has seen and felt the bias over his career.
Yeah those Heat teams got some love - They had the big 3.

The series I'm talking about was before that. The 2006 Finals are when they had Shaq and Wade against peak Dirk and an amazing Mavs team. I've always believed that David Stern didn't like how outspoken Mark Cuban was so the league made sure to give the Heat an unholy amount of help.

The refs and announcers are in the tank for NY. It’s over.

Hawks just took one and the advantage in the garden lots of teary eyed nick fans hitting the subway right now.

The refs and announcers are definitely in the tank for NY but that ending sure was fun to watch.

Spero Dedes is a good broadcaster, but he used to work play by play for the Knicks radio and is from the NY/NJ area.

Trae Young COOKED an entire city.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.

I guess I am pulling for the Hawks but the NBA collectively can suck it.

Wouldn't surprise me 1 bit. Hell, look at the NBA now. LeBron can say and do whatever he wants (including violating league policy while locked down) and gets 0 reprimand, suspension or fine. He can say whatever he wants and has 0 reprimand even if it Dox's a policeman and incites violence.
Must be all that privilege that I have that he isn't afforded in this "terrible country" he's made millions of dollars in.

The 2006 Finals was the most rigged championship I can remember in any sport. They didn’t even try to hide it.

Anyone see Bill de Blasio try (and fail miserably) to clown on Trae?

Knicks are a bunch of bitches. Complain about FTs when they shot more of them. Hawks just made plays down the stretch and they didn't.

Could have stopped there. Warren Wilhelm Jr is an embarrassment to humanity.

Hope Trey drops a 50 spot tonight in the garden

That was a frustrating game. That had to be the worst shooting half of the season for the Hawks. Everyone went just ice cold except for Trae. Gallinari is killing them...he missed at least 5 completely wide open three pointers last night.
Bogi could not hit anything either when the second half rolled around. Rough game.

Yup. Couldn't throw it in the ocean. Gallo has been a disaster this playoffs.
Collins with an 0-fer isn't good for "max contract" discussions.
