More than four years after the franchise last participated in a playoff game on Apr. 28, 2017, the Atlanta Hawks are officially returning to the postseason.

Hell yeah.

I think we all know we aren’t gonna win it all but we are also probably the team that no top seed wants to play. Just want to see us win a series on the national stage after playing only 3 nationally televised games all year

I've said it before here, but the Atlanta Hawks are going to be the team that actually brings a title home first for Atlanta.

They've got the best "organization" top to bottom in the city, or at the least, rivals Arthur Blank in his commitment to the team and city, and dollar spend to accompany it.

Since Ressler bought the team, he's: (1) built the best practice facility in the country in Brookhaven for the team, (2) Hired top not management and scouts (Love you, Schlenk), (3) completely revamped the arena to the tune of a quarter billion, (4) Has and will continue to spend money into the luxury tax to WIN, and (5) is helping his brother spearhead the $2 Billion Centenial Yards project - a complex that may only be rivaled by LA Live when all said and done.

This team is super exciting, they play well together, they're well coached on Nate Mac, and they're INCREDIBLY young.

In year 4 of the rebuild, they're a Miami loss tonight or a win tomorrow from winning the first division title since the 60-win season in 2015. That '15 team was the peak. This one is just getting started.

After watching Liberty Media fumble the bag on the bullpen this off-season, have virtually no response to the Bauer/Betts acquisitions the past 2 years... thinking the Braves are going to win the World Series is a fools errand. That organization is the Mark Richt of sports and think winning the East is some holy grail. Annoys the living shite out of me.

Really hope the Hawks can make some noise... going to need to get my hands on some playoff tickets! This team's ride has been exhilarating since March 1.

Sure beats the Eeyore cloud that is the Snitker-managed, Liberty Media-owned Braves and watching my beloved Falcons claim to be in "win now" mode and shop our best offensive weapon.

LETS GO HAWKS!!

To get out of cap hell they're probably gonna have to deal Julio. It sucks, but that's the business side of the League. Julio was always much more tradeable than Matt. Trading/dealing Matt was always a pipe dream.

And you can thank Dimitroff for the Falcons being in cap hell.

I didn't realize Ridley was on the trade market.

Looks like it will be the Knicks...

I hate their fans with an unholy passion. Would love a sweep, but see Hawks in 6, closing out at home.

CAW!

Technically United already did that

All national TV games, all primetime slots...

The Hawks (and Trae Young, in particular) have been bitching about getting national respect for half-a-season now... they've got a legitimate gripe. There isn't a better stage to shape the narrative. I hope they take advantage of it.

The ratings are going to be through the GD roof.

You think so?
I’m not sure that the Hawks draw that much interest?

The Knicks in the playoffs will bring the eyeballs.

As mentioned by VA, yeah the Knicks being in the playoffs is a big draw nationally, and Trae Young is a top-10 most popular player nationally as well. He was leading vote getter for All-Star team last year for PGs.

These Hawks are a fun watch. A lot more fun than even that 2015 team.

I was living near Cleveland at the time. After JR Smith went on that absurd shooting tear in the 3rd quarter of Game 1 in the ECF, no one up there had any fear of the Hawks. Even though the Hawks had home court in that series, by the end of the 3rd quarter of Game 1, the series was already a foregone conclusion.

I haven't watched the NBA in a few years, but listening to Matt Chernoff talk about them, it sounds like they have a lot of firepower this year.

Hawks pulled the worst first round matchup imaginable because coach Nate Mcmillian was correct.

Watch how bad the calls are going to be this series. The Knicks are a good team and everyone knows the NBA wants them to go far.

This is overblown. If this was really true, the NBA wouldn't have let them get their asses handed to them by Indiana in so many playoff series over the years. You know the NBA would have given their left nut to get a Heat/Knicks ECF in 2013, but the 3 seed Pacers ran the 2 seed Knicks off the floor in the second round.

The Hawks drafted extraordinarily well the last few years and spent money rather wisely in FA to bring in guys like Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdonavic (absolute steal).

What I think is so exciting about this hawks team compared to that 2015 squad is, this team has a potential championship ceiling. After that game 1 in the ECF, I think it was obvious that it was that core’s unquestionable peak.

As for popularity, the Trae Young factor is a real thing. He’s got the highest “Q” score of any Atlanta athlete right now by a country mile - meaning, he’s the most recognized national star in the city. Atlanta loves its stars.

I really hope he shows up in the playoffs... he’s absolutely an electric factory to watch.

This SI Article is a fantastic read on the Hawks and the fanbase.

Surprised by this.
He could sit next to me on the plane and I’d have no idea who he was.
Matt Ryan, Julio and Gurley I’d know.
Not doubting you but there are lots and lots of people who have no interest in the NBA.

Now, if you mean city of Atlanta I’d agree.
OTP people, not so sure.

Indiana is a big basketball market and is always in the playoffs.

Go watch the Webber Sacramento vs the Lakers with Kobe and Shaq or do some research on what happens when the NBA wants a winner. The ref who got busted and other whistleblowers have also came out and said the nba tailors to big markets.
