Seemed like he turned things around in year 3, only to stink it up.

He said it himself in his final PC, he didn’t sign enough o and d lineman his first two years and it bit him in the butt.
This is one of the main reasons.

You know I don't have an answer to that and I probably can't articulate what I want to say very well...
When I was in high school I was a decent enough ball player, but there were times where I would get upset and get in this mental state where I just tuned everything out. I just had this pissed off look on my face and I basically never shifted gears. It hurt my team at times and when several of us got in that state we got our asses kicked. We didn't have a presence on our team that would snap everybody out of that funk.
I feel like Arkansas currently has the same issue and the lack of that leadership has created a culture of losing. They're mentally soft and easily broken. The talent is there but the mindset is not. Bielema never got this corrected and that is why we saw the inexplicable late season 2nd half collapses last year and the lack of give a shite this year.

Loss of identity along with not replacing assistants and talented players.

I think that is pretty spot on. Recruiting is what people will point the fingers at but this is probably reason numero uno for what happened to us. Once things started going bad they were bound to keep going bad.

Not necessarily directed at you, but the "2015 was a good year" thing was wrong headed at the time and is revisionist history to a degree now.
We lost to Toledo, got railed by Texas Tech, blew a lead (again) to a mediocre A&M team, blew a 14 point second half lead (shocker!) to Gus's worst Auburn team and almost handed them that game, beat Ole Miss with a miracle fluke play, blew a win against MSU because of the worst 2 minute coaching decision I've ever seen (taking the ball out of BA's hands and playing for a FG), and beat Mizzou after the BLM saga had ripped apart their team and school. Our only quality wins were at Ole Miss and at LSU.
As odd as it is to say an 8-5 team is overrated, that team is overrated as hell when it comes to discussions of Bert's tenure.

Talent development and utilization, IMO.

Bert and his file folder, didn't get it done.

Why did Bert fail?
My wife asked me this same question tonight when I got home from the game. Here’s what my answer was.
Bert failed because of 3 key reasons, all of which tie back to hubris and stubbornness.
1. Bad coordinator hires
Our staff was a veritable revolving door under Bert. Bad DC hires, the DL coach hires after Patridge left were questionable hires at the time and turned out to be horrific, and Anderson was a terrible hire for OL coach.
2. Awful strength and conditioning philosophy
I’ve written about this ad nauseum on here, but Herb is unquestionably the worst S&C coach in the conference and among the worst in the country. His philosophy and piss poor conditioning cost us countless games via blown leads. When your S&C coach admits that it took him 4 years to realize that speed and conditioning matter in the SEC, you know you’re effed.
3. Underestimating the SEC
Another thing we’ve all discussed ad nauseum and something Bert has admitted. It goes without saying that he underestimated the dynamics of the SEC, and it manifested itself in the above two points.

He was never going to be successful... UW fans knew this but most Razorback fans didn’t want to listen.... “oooh Rose Bowls....”
As if Bert had much if anything to do with those.

Oh wait
Alvarez didn't give Bert the $$$$$$ for coordinators
First Bert Myth

He came here to win the SEC and he failed
He talked the noise in the B1G, got here and failed
I hear it's cold in Illinois Bert, get there

I think he underestimated pretty much everything about the SEC.
The speed and athleticism, the caliber of coaching, the grind and workload, the recruiting wars, the fan obsession and dedication, the expectations, the culture, and the general dynamic of the league, I’d posit he came in completely blind and underestimated all of it.
