I know the Arkansas ties, but as far as head coaching goes, he has 2 seasons at Memphis where he has continued on what Justin Fuente built.

AS far as recruiting and program building goes, he would be an unknown.

I am not on board with him being coach.

Am I missing something besides him having a good O?

I'm not. We can do better. I'm not ok with the Bus either.

I'm on a blueberry kick myself. Just had IHOP and used the blueberry syrup.

I read last night I think that he is recruiting at a better clip than Fuente did there.

He isn't just maintaining what Fuente built, he appears to be taking the program even higher.

That said, I'm kinda like you. I'd rather them go after a few other guys first. Including the guy who handed Norvell the reigns there at Memphis.

I'm meh on the Gus bus. He wont have the success here that he had at Auburn. He may give us a punchers chance at a few games though.

Why would you not want a guy that can recruit the no. 1 Juco Qb to go to Memphis over all other schools?

I'v unfortunately come on board to the Gus Bus...When you look at the big picture, he absolutely makes the most sense. Can he win here? Yes...Can he recruit here? Unknown

I like Norvell...I like his O so yes that plays a big part. I haven't been a big spread guy, but I feel we need to catch up with the times and we have access to plenty of athletes to run that type of system.

I think this type of system levels the playing field some times in recruiting...especially on O. His D plays harder than our current one and has a couple young guys. I like one of their freshman corners a lot...ton of ball skills.

Anyway...I could get behind either

I would take him in a heartbeat over Gus.

I just don't think he would be my first, or even second, or even third choice.

I don't think many have him as the first choice, just the most likely one that we fall back if we aren't able to get our first few choices. He could end up being a flop but if he works out here, you would have to feel fairly good about him staying for as long as we want.

I have spoken to many Memphis folks, the dude is a good coach, fired up kind of coach, great recruiter, and he loves football and Arkansas..

He hasn't just maintained, but continues to build. I think it is a match made in heaven, but we will screw around and get someone for a few years who sucks.. lord I hope not...

I'm ok with norvell, but I've already started airing up the tires on the Gus bus. I got my Mickey mouse ears on and I'm ready for the whirlybird.

I'm not saying it is what I want, but I might as well get the sails ready for it when it happens.

Given the current landscape with other openings and potential openings, I think Norvell would be a very sensible hire.

Are there questions? Sure. But those exist with any potential candidate.

What I was told verbatim.. By someone who definitely knows...

"He doesn't want to leave Memphis this season, and Arkansas is the only place he would leave for this season, his dream job"

Now... I know there is more to the requirements of being our HC than just wanting it. But the dude can recruit, he can coach, he can continue a program, we have the talent for him to use immediately and he loves this team/state... HIRE HIM

only negative I can see is, does he have the contacts to get solid assistants, coordinators?

Except for that whole thing about him being heralded as the best non-P5 recruiter.

I'm on board with Norvell. If we hire Gus I'll stop watching Hog football (I'll listen to it on the radio.). Seeing Gus on the Hog sideline will make me :yuck:
