Mike Anderson is a great guy. If he has talent that is superior to the other team, he'll win 9 out of 10 times. Equal or less talent...he'll lose 7 out of 10.
Assistant coaches are my only beef. Love Mike. Like the style of play overall. But we're predictable when we can't out talent other teams. (No rebounding, can't get in our offense).
This team...is incredibly talented. Talent is the #1 game...so if he's bringing it in we'll be just fine.

Im right here, what the frick do you want?
yeah this team is fun. he's had lots of those types.
it is however not fun when you lose in the first round (or don't make the tourney at all)
now go crawl back into your cardboard box FCJ

Yes really, Rev. I'm not gonna take it easy on you because you're a man of the cloth. In fact, I believe a man such as yourself should be held to a higher standard of conduct. And you should expect the same for yourself.
This thread isn't about 8 years ago, Rev. This is 2017. THIS YEAR.

Reporting for duty.
I will complain until we make the Sweet 16 or are a 1-4 seed in a regional bracket.
The Arkansas program should be a "How far are we going to make it in the tournament this year?" program, rather than "Are we going to make the tournament this year?" program.

Welcome to 2015 or whenever. After this year we will have been to 4 out of the last 5.
I mean, I guess you can continue to question if we are going to make the tournament, but most rational people have already moved onto the "how far are we going to make it" part of your equation like 3 years ago now.
Good luck with your pessimism.

But, The thread title....Invites looking at past results as a guide for future play
and Nothing in MA's Arkansas past points to major success of any kind. Success... sure, high medium maybe.

Uh no we haven't. 15-16 we didn't make the tournament and we weren't exactly planning on it. We lost to Akron at home in the 2nd game of the season, I remember being at that game and having the very rational thought of "this team really ain't gonna be shite this year are they?" And they weren't.
Not saying anything about MA, just saying you would have had to been fricking crazy to think "how far are we gonna go" at this point in time during the 15-16 season

54 wins and 23 losses later here we are close to being a top 25 team with 9 new faces and a future lottery draft pick. Is that the last game you went to?

Nope Auburn in the last home game earlier this year. Skipped my night class just to go. Don't get offended by my last post. I'm not talking shite about MA or the program. Was just saying that we were not good that 15-16 season and no one thought we were making the tournament lol.

I get mixed up on my years a lot.
Don't focus on the specifics!

Biggest myth among fans with college basketball is “it takes time”.
Football is the sport that takes time. There are 85 players on the roster so obviously you aren't just going to come in and replace everyone.
Basketball takes one recruiting class. Sometimes even just one recruit. On a typical team there's maybe 12-13 players and realistically only about 8 play meaningful minutes. It takes one class to completely change the dynamic of your roster. Hell, think about how much this season was impacted just by the sole fact that Gafford stayed.
Mike has not accomplished enough in 9 years to be told he's done a good job. We have waded in the shallow waters of mediocrity his entire tenure here. He did a fine job putting butts back in the seats after Pel, but that's about it. The SEC save Kentucky and Florida under Donovan has been largely subpar nationally until the last 2 seasons or so and we've only managed middling records his entire time here.
That said, this is his team and if he can finally get a group of kids to put it all together, I'm more than ready for it.

27-9 and 26-10 are "middling records"?
Again, waiting to hear from any of ya'll who would come here right now and consistently delivery a higher quality team year end and year out than Mike.

quote:While we were sucking off Mike for another opening weekend exit, Texas Tech snatched Beard right out of UALR. They're already better than us. Where they are right now is success we have literally never seen in 9 years under Mike and Tech was a disaster when Beard got there. There are PLENTY of people that could have come in and done a better job than Mike by year 9.

Not sucking him off, just being realistic. Drew UNC both years we won in the first round, had we won those games, and had 2 sweet 16s, literally no one would be saying a word. Literally 2 games.
Beard is in his 3rd season. Missed the NCAA his first year with a losing record in the big 12 (get it, tougher conference) then went on a solid run with a very senior laden team.
They've beaten a 4 loss Memphis team and a 3 loss USC team this year. Let's see how they do down the stretch, they're super young.
We're a buzzer beating 3 away from being 6-0 and right on the cusp of being ranked.
You really run an incredible self serving argument, I'll give you that.

Want to know how to avoid North Carolina in the second round? Try not being an 8-9 seed with the most talented, seasoned roster you've ever assembled because of stupid mistakes constantly costing you games during the season. Tech was a 3 seed by year 2, 4 years removed from being 13-19. Seemed to work out better.
Like I said before, I like that Mike is coaching this team and I want him to have a couple of years with this group, but it's more than justified to say that for the amount of time he's been given with the goal of competing nationally, the results up to this point aren't satisfactory for this program. 9 years is an eternity in coaching. There should be more to show for it by now.
