Just on Tuesday:

Akol Mawein - Granted his release from the program

Abayomi Iyiola - gone to the portal

Assistant Coach David Patrick - leaves for OU

Did Muss tell these guys to seek another school or is this just the new age of the portal?

I think it's a little of both. Mawein was attached to Patrick that was why he was coming here so that one is simple, Akol committed to Patrick at UC Riverside out of HS.

Not a big loss, I don't think he was going to be much of a contributor this year, as a senior with development sure. A transfer can/will offer just as much to next years team IMO.

Iyiola I think was told he likely wasn't going to get much playing time and if he wanted he could go and he is going. Unfortunate injury derailed his career here, was still a year away from contributing also though. Be interesting to see where he goes for sure.

As far as Patrick, idk, pay raise maybe? Issues with Muss like many seem to have? Who knows. Muss runs the ship, I don't really worry about who leaves and goes with assistants it's just part of Muss. Patrick was rumored to be in the running for many head assistant jobs and a few low tier head coach jobs.

Lets wait and see who he hires, I thought the other guy was meh so hopefully a little better here at least for recruiting.

Apparently Patrick and Porter Moser are buds. Combined with Muss being demanding....welll there ya go. Work less, make more. Who wouldn’t?

Both guys that left are basically players that the assistant coaches brought with them so now that the coaches are gone probably no reason to stay. Will be interesting to see if they both end up in the Big 12 now.

Before even the Patrick rumors there was some smoke about Akol being processed. I think it was always coming as long as Muss found who he wanted in the portal.

I’m not concerned at this point, maybe if there is a significant drop off or the team just looks inept next year.
