I still think you can sign the top 3-5 kids in state every year and have enough of an in-state blueprint to be successful. That way when you have a deep in-state class you have a chance to get 10-12 of them.
I know NIL and the portal has changed the recruiting world and that's why I said 3-5 not 5-10

example if this year you could get:
Beale, Hodges, Goodwin, Prevo, Kennedy, and maybe Smith
That's a solid in-state get with need positions like DL and LB
Still think we are missing on Archer also as well as the DE from Bryant
but maybe Bobby changes that.

You don't have to get them all but I do think you have to get a nucleus of them. Starting getting the best in-state guys to stay home again and the pride in the program returns.
Then maybe some portal guys that left start to come back and next thing you know you've got 30-35 home grown kids that can actually play on the roster.
Currently I counted 6 guys on our 2-deep that contribute from in-state.
You can't win here like that. No pride.

BTW... best hit of the night last week was the freshman Simmons from Harding Academy on Special Teams.
Might be time to get him some time at LB.
Just saying ... he can't be out of position any more than Sorey.
I watched Sorey take a pass drop on a run read multiple times.
His regression as been pitiful.

I believe you should do this, just because it keeps the lines open and who cares, if they don’t end up playing, there is no difference in them and the 10ish that never end up on a field. Process them at the end of the year and move on if they will never have the skills.

What we cannot do is allow what is happening now to continue... out of state schools cherry picking recruits we never even gave a sniff at. The state doesn't produce a tremendous amount of talent, we cannot afford to let any of it stroll out the door and go to a competing school.

I agree. It's a bad look and it just put's a bad taste in the mouth of our kids. So when the next group of decent athletes is ready to sign, guess what, they are going elsewhere also.

Build the fence again. HDN may not have done everything right but he had that part of the formula correct.

It’s also probably important to acknowledge that Sam’s boss is a complete moron and for him supposedly being a “numbers guy” apparently never noticed this trend that you and others have easily recognized and pointed out. I think we can all agree that the lack of in-state baws staying in state has compounded recruiting/depth issues. Grant and Drew Morgan were not top recruits, but are great examples of how guys like that can be maximized and contribute on a huge level(just a couple of more recents that come to mind).

We need more players who love the helmet.

We over-used that statement and used it against Nutt.... but I think right now we have ZERO kids that love the helmet.

Have to build that back up.
I never would have had the talent to play at that level but I would give everything I had to put that gear on 1 time and run through that A.
Would have meant the world to me. We have to build that again.

The fact is roughly 52 players will contribute during a game and the roster allows for double that, I'm not sure why you don't have more Arkansas kids in that remaining 50 or so players who of nothing else will give their all running the scout team or pushing more talented players in the depth chart because of the love of the helmet.

Basically the mentality of what do I need to do to help the team? You want me to switch from RB/WR to LB/DB? Sure thing.

The real difference is that a 2 star in state guy is far more likely to stick with the program, work his butt off to improve and see the field and have the innate pride…perhaps developing into a Morgan (Drew or Grant) or maybe just being a higher quality scout team player, resulting in the team getting better.

A 2 star from out of state is way more likely to bag it to chase sorority girls or transfer to a school where he can play.

I’ll amend this logic…stars don’t matter…whether 2 or 4…all the above is true.

We can’t build a full roster with in state guys….but we could get them all, build that nucleus and spend our recruiting budget chasing 4-5 stars from states that border Arkansas and FL…and we’d be just fine.

Signed,

J. Frank Broyles

I'm watching Vandy this past Saturday... not many blue chippers on that roster, but it's amazing what happens when you coach a kid up and get him in the right spot.
If we can get back to doing this with in-state kids and use NIL to bring in the goon squad we can compete again.

It's not impossible. We've seen the formula work before.

We have four 4 stars in state this year (more than average by a good bit) and all are committed elsewhere.

We are so far from in state recruiting being an issue at this point.

Arkansas needs to go after Jeff Reegan and Braxton Lindsey.

Danny says with the Silverfield hire he sees us landing the two 4 star DL in-state that Pittman ignored.

Supposedly an in-state lb as well.

Apparently he spent today on the phone with in-state recruits. He needs to spend mon-thurs with in person visits.

It’s an encouraging sign. Depressing to see our instate ranking list with all the other logos.

The whole previous staff should be ashamed

Hell I say just sign the top 20 players in Arkansas. They’re all d1 caliber dudes and they’ll fight harder than some of the kids we’ve signed recently

No but the guys committed to other SEC schools this year and last and the year before were apparently ignored by Pittman.

If there are linemen, lbs, and dbs committed to LSU, Mizzou, OU, Ole Miss, etc they are good enough for Arkansas.

Start in-state and fill out the classes with out of state HS and the portal. The in-state guys are likely to hang around for two to three years instead of bailing the portal for not starting their true freshman year.

Beal and Kennedy, and Nelson would be big DL pickups

I really would like to also flip Hodges. We’ll need some added depth at RB.

Goodwin we shall see.
