That's what I don't get about a lot of the Chavis complaints. I can't think of many DCs (available to us) I'd rather have to coach up all those freshmen.

Chief has so many years of SEC experience, he's seen it all. He's tailored training and film study for many, many freshmen defensive players over the years. He's taught the fundamentals for almost two decades. He knows what they need to improve on and how to best reach that goal.

He may not be the absolute best DC and damn sure isn't perfect, but he's about the best option for where we are as a unit. Maybe we could bring in a young firebrand DC in a couple years when we aren't still taking baby steps, but right now we need the basics.

You gotta crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run. We basically JUST took our first steps a few weeks ago.

We might need to go with the Army concept of feast or famine on defense and bring a ton of blitzers on almost every play. When we just sit back we are getting picked apart and we are taking bad angles on the QBs, the RBs, the WRs, and... heck, probably the bench.

Let's do it. I got sick of 4 man rushes.

Yeah, but what do we need to do about the D?
Get healthy and add depth. That's really all we can say needs to happen other than, "hurr durr just coach them better".

Glad to be proven wrong.

Not glad to see the coach and team dancing like we just won the fricking Natty after the game though.

Chad is such a damn Chad.

Point/Counter Point

We didn't fold in the 4th qtr...We were playing Colorado State and the game was in doubt in the 4th quarter.

Defense shut them down after they tied the game....Their QB went out on a very tough play to watch. Don't think the hit was intentional...but our fans would be howling if it had been the other way.

It was good to see a win....It was embarassing to see us celebrating like we'd just gotten to the BCS playoffs.

There were moments of true splendor....and there were head scratching stretches that need to go.

Improvements: We won. Finished in the fourth quarter. Better play calling. Faster pace at times. Starkel @ QB. OL. Kept our best playmakers on the field most of the time.

Needs: Better run defense. Sloppy turnover. Connect on deep routes. More pressure packages from LBs and DBs.

Truth.

We all want to be back where we were the last two years with Petrino or at least back to the Nutt years when beating a Colorado State was a hoo hum day at the office (other then the one Nutt game a year where he found a way to lose to someone he should have blown out). We aren't there yet and we are going to have to win some dog fights to get back to there.

We won one of those dogfights yesterday and its because the players and staff have some life to them instead of just going through the motions like they did with Bert. If it gets them fired up for the next game they can go with a hundred man Rockettes routine for all I care. Just win.

Honestly, this is the biggest positive.

We'd have lost this game with Bert. Those rosters had too much quit in them to ever dream of putting up a 4th quarter like the one we had yesterday.

I said during our coaching search that the new hire would have his work cut out in terms of running the quit out of this locker room. Hopefully we're going in the right direction in that regard.

I'm afraid we had to do a lot of addition by subtraction to get to this point. Some, perhaps most, of Bert's players were just too deeply embedded in the culture of quit that settled into the program.

Not to re-litigate 2018, but Morris should've just trotted out all freshmen last year, especially after the Colorado State and Ole Miss games where you could see that old "here we go again, time to fold" mentality creeping in with Bert's players.

Either way, glad to see that it appears we've purged at least some of the give-up from this roster.

he didnt have a ton on the roster like this last year. we had to have transfers or graduates to free up the space to get them on the roster to play them

Did you see the video dude?

I'm truly not trying to be a dick but it was seriously over the top.

A simple speech of this is how hard work pays off and where we want to be would have been fine.

Instead we get wannabe Dabo minus the national championship.

yes after tons of hard work the team sees a reward of a win. against a team that embarassed us last year. they should be solemn focused machines. this isn't the NFL.

now if we would like to discuss my contempt for the phrase club dub that's a whole other deal but whatever hope the teams celebrated their arse off anyone checked the website yet?

Improvements:

1) The team played with a burning desire to win, especially in 1st and 4th quarter.

2) Nick Starkel proved his ability at quarterback and as a leader.

3) Coach Morris was obviously more instrumental in calling plays.

4) Offense and defense dominated the 4th quarter.

I really enjoyed watching Burks and Knox. Those guys want to win so bad and they are so damn good.We haven’t scratched the surface of what they are capable of.

Watching Ogrady, Stark, several of the players interviews... I love it.

They have tasted what it means to win, to get smacked in the face and respond and close/finish.

Let em celebrate with passion, and play with it as well. I don't like the Club Dub either, but really... I don't care what they call it with the win. Hopefully it will be addictive and contagious for them and us.
