The Kings thoughts: Leach would average 8 or 9 wins a year here

Judging by where he was with Texas Tech and is at with Washington State.

Both are lower tier schools in weaker conferences. We are slightly higher tiered than both of those but in a tougher conference.

I think Leach would keep on with his ways.

Norvell does not have the resume to really judge and it would be taking a chance again. I wish I could see what he does over the next few years. Memphis with it's recruiting should be a decent tiered school in the AAC which is a weak G5 conference.

Gus is slightly above average at Auburn with better recruiting than here. He would fall off and average 6 wins here. He is a clear NO.

Petrino I am afraid is washed up and has lost his fire. His name was big when we got him and his first recruiting class paid dividends, but I don't see that repeating. At Louisville during his first stint his lowest win total for a year was 9. 9 has been his highest win total in his second stint.

Dude is 4-5 in a weak arse league. That's good enough for 6th in the north division of the Pac 12.

HY is smarter than that.

Look at the school and his record there. His first 3 years were rough. The he had 4 good ones with 11 wins last year. He is in a rebuilding year. He is consistent.

Go to his head coaching record

Do you want to gamble again with Norvell? Give me your thoughts with some information as to how you get the conclusion.

Gus ain't happening, that bridge was thoroughly burned 2 years ago. The ashes have blown into the wind and become dust elsewhere.

Petrino would maaaaaaybe get a look if he was still worth the risk. As it stands, it doesn't look like the wins would come in order to overlook all the baggage. He was neutered when he got run off the road and/or beat to shite that day.

There's a lot of chatter about Norvell amongst the boosters and BoT guys I know, and they've been pretty high on him since last week's coming out party against SMU with Gameday there. Aside from his obviously good coaching, they also like that he's a good looking younger guy that would make a good face of a program at a time when we need serious rebranding. Just have to keep that baggage quiet.

Leach is on their radar too, and it's a fact they spoke to him 2 years ago and he expressed interest. I like what he did at Tech and I use that as more of a barometer for his potential here, opposed to WSU (which is still good in itself). I think we could go get him if we try, and we better. He'd bring immediate excitement to the fanbase with his first press conference alone, and when that offense gets installed we'd be flying high.

Don't sleep on Sonny Dykes either, his name goes around a lot amongst the power brokers up there. They (and I) like that he's shown he knows the way to clean up after Morris, and will do what it takes. He's probably a 4th - 5th option down the list right now. I wouldn't hate it, but there's others I'd prefer.

What is his baggage? I keep hearing but I have no clue what it is.

Gambling and supposedly likes the co-eds quite a bit. There was rumors about him bar hopping way too often, but I've never heard it from anyone extremely reliable

Memphis guys on the MSB jokingly said Jerry started the rumors about Norvell so his guy Chad would get the job and JSJ was assured a scholarship...

Who knows if it's true, but I honetsly wouldn't put it past him.

Why not get the man that taught him his offense and made him successful? Just go straight to the source.

His win total has been in decline. At VT he started with 10 wins, then 9, then 6 and is at 6 currently. He did bring Memphis up in 3 years and that makes it easier on Norvell which takes away fro him.

Agreed. Aside from the fact that he wins wherever he goes, I really like that he’s a hardass with his players, a la Petrino. We sorely need that.

Why would you ever hire a guy the current fanbase would cheer if they got rid of him.

Fuente has a gigantic buyout and is through decline. He's not good anymore and he was the guy who built Memphis.

No thanks. He probably won’t last much longer at VT.

This seems extremely unlikely just because the optics of hiring another SMU coach

Yeah, but he has ties to Texas and the SWC which is all the people he is talking about seem to care about.

The were tossing his name around before Bert was hired and he went to crash and burn at Cal.

What can we logically do as a program Coach wise.

I think the safest bet is Leach. We can't afford to gamble and lose again. It's been 8 fricking years.
