I actually attended Tech's big win over Texas in 2002 when Kliff was a senior. It was a great game. Back then I thought their stadium had a war memorial type of vibe. It was small, loud and shitty. It will be a tough place to play. At least they don't sling tortillas out on the field anymore!

And saying they're friendly, god-fearing people is almost a direct quote from one of my buddies who actually had to move there recently. I'm not trying to them seem like anything they aren't...unlike maybe some.
I don't care. You just stop it, silly.

I went as a kid and told myself then, I'd never go back.
Their fans......well....think of the worst fan base you've ever seen and multiply it times 1,000
That's what you will encounter in Lubbock.

I was looking forward to watching some Ninja Death Star type tortilla tossing.

My sister lived there for a for a few years when her husbands company sent him there to work.
Overall, it's no worse than Starkville, maybe better.
However, it is a long way and it is different, geographically speaking.
A visit to the Palo Duro Canyon (between Amarillo and Lubbock) is kind of neat, think Grand Canyon, but on a much smaller scale. Still neat though.

I thought about going b/c I've never been, but everyone always says you might as well spend that money going somewhere else.
Pretty sure we're going to Mizzou instead this year

I'd love to go...I've got a free place to stay and I haven't visited this friend nearly enough.
But frick, this has been an expensive year. Wedding, honeymoon, rings, flying all the fricking time for various family obligations, etc.

If you are really going to "do" West Texas nothing beats Big Bend and the smaller south towns like Marfa and Alpine.

I pretty much like all things Texas outside of the Longhorns. I don't remember going to Lubbock but I've been just north and south of there and West Texas is neat. I like the El Paso area, Guadalupe Mtns., etc.

Pretty cool town; loads of hot young women.
Fans can be obnoxious; War Memorial was a pretty good comparison.
The campus is flat, but the folks there are actually pretty nice( have a son there.) The student section is pretty rowdy
I'll be there

Big Bend really is pretty cool, albeit pretty far from Lubbock.

Lubbock isn't really all that bad. Granted, I went to HS in southeast New Mexico, so my standards are generally low. That said, all my buddies went to Tech, so there is no way in hell I'm missing this game.
The Jones isn't a bad stadium. And campus is, as stated, flat and spread out. The people are friendly and you should be able to find some Sand Aggies to share a tailgate with.

In Texas terms it feels close.

Hell yeah it would. We went when I was a senior in high school for a biology II class. Big Bend was the teacher's favorite place on earth, so he took his class there every year. It was a small class (AP)...maybe 10 or 12 people, but he somehow got approval to do this EVERY year.
I dreaded it. I think it took us 14 hours to get there from Northeast Texas. But it really was a fun trip. I even swam across the Rio Grande into Mexico just to say I did...in hindsight not the smartest idea swimming in the cold, dirty Rio Grande.
I'd like to go back and take some pictures...especially at night.

Y'all do work on them, please. I can't stack TTech.
How are y'all feeling about that game, after spring practice?

Our Spring game comes up Saturday; maybe we'll have a little better outlook on things then. LINK

I wish we had pushed ours off a week. Having it on Holy Saturday was all kinds of dumb.
Posted on 4/23/14 at 11:37 pm to TheSandman
Yes, most likely better for fans to have it at a different time other than that weekend but for the team it's probably just important to close out Spring Practice and get the game in headed toward the Summer.

I'm sure the people there are people just like everywhere else, but the actual landscape in the Texas panhandle looks like the set of Mad Max. It's desolate, windy, nothing grows, and most things are poorly built and ill-maintained in the more rural towns. Not to mention all the tornadoes and raging wildfires.
That said, Lubbock is actually pretty good sized, so maybe it has a bit more to offer over it's dismal surroundings. I've never actually been to Lubbock, but I've been to plenty of places just north, including Plainview, and they all looked almost surreal in how post-apocalyptic everything appeared.
