Musselman is the back up. And maybe even Greg Marshall. I think Sampson is still there too. He hasn't signed his extension with Houston yet. Beard is the one that has to say no first.
Well so much for that. Sampson just signed his extension with Houston.

I'd take Marshall over Musselman but you can't complain about either. Both very proven coaches.

Not sure id call Musselman a proven coach, esp not as a college coach.
Between the two, musselman is the bigger gamble, with perhaps a bigger upside.

He's proven as a coach. Where he's not proven at all is as a recruiter. He took a program that hadn't been to the tournament in a decade and won the conference 3 straight years. He's also coached in the NBA and for international National teams. He's 100% proven as a coach including at the college level. The issue I have is he doesn't like to recruit but to say he's unproven is just not true.

I am all in on Beard, Duh... .or Musselman, and then Marshall.
But rumor is that musselman wears heavily on folks, meaning he is very hard to work with and for. Extremely demanding and callous towards players, assistants, operations staff etc. He can get away with it at Nevada because of the way he recruits. It is kind of a last chance U of basketball players. Transfers who will either take it or they are done, etc.
Which, by the way. I would be fine with!

If that is the case, he is flexible then
You certainly can't get a head coaching gig in the NBA acting that way

The issue is those different problems tend to yield the exact same results in these situations. We all know you don't have to be a shitty job to take on a shitty coach. We see it happen every single year. We may be a hopeful and loyal fan base, but we're a very broken and jaded one at the same time.

If a coach isn't announced by the weekend then a good educated guess is that they are holding out for Beard.

Only one coach can cure this fanbase of the toxic anxiety that eats away at our very core. The Zen Master.

I hope we throw stupid money at Beard. Money so stupid he can't say "no." I want so badly to be back in the thick of things in college basketball.
We need to make a statement with this hire. A statement that says "We are tired of the shite, and are going to do something about it."

100% my feelings as well. It's easy to say when I'm not the one that has to pay for it, but really and truly if we're going to talk and act like a premier basketball school, it's time to act like it. Pay a coach you know will win what he demands and start winning.

You may be right. Most likely, you are. But HY is determined to make him say NO, it appears. I do like that.

Is it really Hunter? I thought most believe BOT is putting pressure on him to try.

It is Tommy Boy pushing for Beard. And he is pushing hard. This would have been already a wrap if not for that.
