I don't agree with you often, but when I do...

But he was vetted and basically hired before HY was involved... I believe.

I think we will do better than we have had, I still have some hope.

So, apparently Beard really is the big hangup here: LINK

quote:

The search for the University of Arkansas' next basketball coach likely could extend into next week.

That's because a top target is still coaching his team, and it's not NIT finalists Shaka Smart (Texas) or Casey Alexander (Lipscomb).

quote:

Arkansas Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek wants to talk to Texas Tech Coach Chris Beard -- who has led the Red Raiders to their first NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance and a matchup against Michigan State on Saturday -- according to sources, but any conversation will have to wait until the team's season ends.

It's debatable if Beard would leave Texas Tech for Arkansas or any other job considering he has a 57-16 record the last two seasons with the Red Raiders.

But Arkansas officials hope to at least gauge Beard's interest and make him an offer to return to the state to coach the Razorbacks.

If we hire Beard both this board and the rant will be fricking gold.

No doubt but if for some reason the other top targets go elsewhere or get locked up by the time Beard is available, we will all melt. I'm going to assume that Hunter is not that stupid to not have a very secure and solid backup plan.

I almost said something about how the other coaches feel about this. I'm betting HY wasn't counting on Beard making it this far into the dance and figured he'd have a decision by now. Beard's run makes it a little awkward, but if HY is willing to wait, maybe he got some feedback from one of Beard's people that's worth waiting on?

I'm definitely rooting for a Tech loss Saturday.

I'm hearing Steve Alford is likely his backup plan which would be a huge frickup. No idea why we're even considering him.

You would hope so but even then it doesn't really mean much with all the leveraging going on

In general, I think its a bad idea to wait but I can't complain because so far not one serious target it still off the table

I seriously doubt this. No way he goes from swinging for Beard all the way down to Alford doesn't make much sense.

it's his back up if our other options after Beard fall through. Sorry should have quoted the previous post to give better context.

Has HY ever made a big hire on his own?

Wasn't Sampson and that douche football coach his predecessor?

Who hired Neighbors, thinking it was the interim chick right?

Musselman is the back up. And maybe even Greg Marshall. I think Sampson is still there too. He hasn't signed his extension with Houston yet. Beard is the one that has to say no first.

That makes much more sense, in that case I agree. I'd rather go for an off the wall hire like Donovan or Pitino than pick up a coach that just got run out of LA.

Here is your list of potential coaches

1. Chris Beard
2. Eric Mussellmen
3. Greg Marshall
4. Baby Pitino
5. Mcaffery
6. Alford

It won't get past 2 or 3.

Patience is the key. We are the best job available. Nobody is going anywhere. We haven't missed on anybody. We are running the show and we are dictating how things are going to go. I know that is something new to Hog fans, but enjoy it. It won't happen much.

It shouldn't be new, but there really are a few that have convinced themselves we aren't an attractive destination anymore. Never made much sense to me. Even with the lack of success, the fan support, facilities, recruiting hotbeds, and competitive pay are more than enough to catch the eye of any top coach looking to win big. Our problem has never been appeal, it's been the people running the damn searches.

Frank had his fair share of frickery in the hoops coaching search arena as well.
