My last pinch of tobacco was on June 5th of 2013.

I went to a patch instead. Had been working fine until this week, when out of the blue cravings came back.

Anyone have any experience with this? As in, when will all cravings go away and I think I'm now hooked on this damn patch.

Quit smoking for two years then started back when I got divorced about three years ago. Planning to stop again next Monday. Went cold turkey, patches and vapo cigs just make me crave it.

Quit smoking 3 years ago, will never touch again, can't stand them now.

Cold turkey, mind over matter, take control of your brain and resist the urges/cravings. If you want to quit bad enough you can control it, it's your brain and your body. Be tough.

Pretty much all I can say about it, would get a craving and nearly break down and go buy a pack and I'd stop myself and get a grip, say frick that I don't want one and I'm not going to get one frick off and go occupy your time.

May sound dumb idk. Worked.

I quit smoking for 6 months cold turkey till someone in my family stuck a gun in their mouth.

I'm back smoking again.

As long as you don't have any stessers you should be able to get through it.

Just quit the other day smoking but I have been chewing just trying to break the habit of going outside and putting a smoke to my mouth. Going very well so far. I know that's not quitting but I think for Mr its not smoking that's addicting I think its the social aspect or the boredom for me. Will dump the chew after a month see how it goes. Anyone else feel the same way?

Honestly, it depends on how old you are.

I smoked all through college, getting up to as many as 2 packs a day by the time I was a senior. I was not a social smoker, I was a legitimate chain smoker. I also smoked all through graduate school (2 more years) and then quit cold turkey right after graduation.

It was mostly psychological -- I was of the "I'm in college, this is fine" mentality, which then bled into grad school. After that, I didn't have an excuse. I really never had a problem with it and still don't.

Regardless of age, you have to substitute it with something else. I joined a gym and started going every day, which served as a much healthier substitute than some people turn to.

Hubs stopped smoking about 10 years ago (I told him I wouldn't marry a smoker). He says the cravings never completely go away, you just have to learn to manage them. There are days he's really tempted, but then he remembers that his life is more important than the desire to light up.

Best of luck to you.

Quit smoking last September by using an ecig. I've lowered the nic content I'm using from 24mg to 6mg. Honestly, it's been pretty easy, once I switched I haven't really wanted a cigarette. Everyone is different, I've talked to some people that still have cravings after 10+ years of being tobacco free and some are fine after 6 months.

I quit cold turkey almost 8 years ago. Woke up one morning hung over, out of cigs and too drunk to drive and get more. Decided then that I didn't want to smoke anymore. Haven't touched one since.

The cravings subside but don't fully go away. There are still times where I'll smell smoke or just see someone smoking and want one so bad. It's just having the want to not do it anymore.

Don't get me wrong I was a chain smoker I'm 26 been smoking since I was 16. What I mean by socially was that I'm in the military so seems like I'd smoke come back and a friend was like hey man I'm gonna go smoke, then go back out and smoke again. I think I used to base it a lot to of hey of I get this done I'll go smoke. I've always wanted to quit just don't like the typical going to start or stop something on a date. I just ran out the other day and decided it was time. But again don't want to fail so that's why I've been putting a few pinches of dip in. Pretty motivated to kick it.

You've probably already been told this or know this but at school they recommend to taper and set realistic goals for every 1-2 weeks. See if you can cut down 20% during each time period.

Congrats for already having stopped the actual tobacco.

Anything is fine in moderation, even nicotine. It's ok to smoke a cig or have a dip every once in a while. That's not gonna kill you. Getting into a habit of smoking or dipping all day every day is what's so detrimental.

Denying yourself simple pleasures in life will kill you faster than cigarettes.

This July will be 5 years since I quit. Promised my son I would quit and my wife quite the year before. Smoked for 26 years. I had to use Chantex. I still love the smell of smoke but it doesn't trigger my craving for one, strange I know. My toughest part is when I was drinking. Every time I wanted one I would grab another beer. So I would walk around with 2 beers for a while. The habit of smoking was harder to break then the cravings. Best of luck to ya.

I tried Chantex once and it gave me some freaky arse dreams, didn't like it at all. My Ex used it without any problems.

Isn't the patch meant to wean you off not replace your intake method?

It does to some. It gave extreamly vivid dreams, nothing bad. Worst thing was the insomnia. That's why I stopped after 6 weeks.

I'm sure that's what it's meant to do, but you don't want to be around me if I don't have one on.

Haha I actually liked that part about the patches, (I dont dream often) and we got patches free in Afghanistan, would always throw one on before I went to bed.
