They said 13 of our starters were either year 1, 2 or redshirt 3. How bad of a recruiter was Bielema? I dislike Chad, but Bielema really screwed us with no lube.

It also didn't help that Chad ran off basically every last Bert holdover. And I'm not saying that was bad thing, but it obviously affected depth and experience.

On his own without Pittman there to hold his hand, I'd say easily the worst recruiter at Arkansas in my lifetime and it's not even close.

What makes it worse was his evaluations when left on his own. I remember clamoring over losing guys like Joseph Putu, who basically never played any significant time at Florida (even when they were down) and for us, he was a top recruit.

Chad had all the right makings of getting the program back... Except every aspect that had to do with coaching and preparing a team. Other than that, he was perfect...

In a way though, Bert was far far worse. He took a team on the rise that had real nfl talent and rammed it done the drain with laziness, drunkenness, ineptness, and stupidity.

For all his faults, Morris was a really good recruiter. That can't be debated. His undoing was the fact that he quite literally couldn't master any other aspect of running a football program with any semblance of competence. Him purging the roster of most Bert recruits hurt us badly from a depth and experience standpoint.

Bert was a better coach and program manager (not a high bar), but he was profoundly lazy and just a mess of a person. After 2015 we started losing recruiting battles we were previously winning, he made lazy hires who were not SEC or even P5 caliber assistant coaches, and he simply gave up in his last two years.

Not as bad as Morris would have you believe. Think about how shite our defense was under his tenure despite the fact that he had multiple NFL players --- especially in 2018.

Kam Curl, Armon Watts, Dre Greenlaw, Randy Ramsey, and McTelvin Agim are all on active NFL rosters but we didn't have enough talent to beat Colorado State or North Texas.

Like that guy who was an assistant to an offensive line coach

Considering that if he had put in even a minimal amount of effort we wouldn't have been able to cancel his buyout (did they ever settle that lawsuit?) I can believe that.

We have had some thunderously bad coaches over the years but you can make an argument that Morris might have been the worst game day and game week coach to ever sully our sidelines. Bert, on the other hand, is the worst coach to last 5 years at Arkansas and we have some real stinkers there too. Add the John L. Smith meltdown year and its like we gave ourselves a self imposed death penalty.

Yep.

I honestly thought we might see our first ever top-15 class in 2015, until Pittman left. Before then, Bielema had improved the roster every year. After Pittman left, it all went to shite.

It's a combination of the recruiting, but we also didn't end up keeping a lot of what he got on campus in the first place for better or worse. Way too many departures and not enough people coming in. Can you imagine what the roster had looked like if Pittman hadn't been able to sway so many of Chad's guys that were looking elsewhere?
