Good enough opening weekend I suppose. Lots to diagnose and think through for DVH over the next couple days.

I thought it was well played baseball for the first weekend of the season.
Sure we didn't score a bunch but the opponent played really well as people do when playing against the SEC.
Only error of the weekend on Leach trying to throw out runner stealing second. 6 earned runs allowed by the pitching staff.

Noland and Wiggins were both serviceable. Smith looked great. Excited to see the pitching staff continue to develop. Looking to see who’s gonna come out of the bullpen at the end of games and shut them down for us. Unless Ramage is just gonna play the Kopps role this year and be the first AND last guy out of the pen..

Starks is a little raw, but he has the potential to be absolutely dominant in a closer role.

We would get boatraced by an SEC team right now
DVH has his work cut out for him to get this team to gel. We will take some lumps and the lineup will change as it does every year

I actually think we do better against sec pitching than what we showed this weekend. The problem with our teams always seems to be we have too much emphasis on power play. We can hit the top sec pitchers that are throwing 98 mph gas but little ole teams with guys who throw junk and hit spots at 84-85 give us major problems. Basically if you try to challenge us and play our game we play fine, it’s when you make us be patient and peace together hit after hit or take walks when presented that gives us Trouble

I would be more inclined to agree if today starter's main "spot" wasn't middle high, middle of the plate

Of any sport where this is a positive, its baseball.
We don't need to get things worked out before SEC, of which there are many, we just hopefully need to be the 8th best team in the committees eyes after the SECt and have everyone putting it together by then.

Maybe this team just needs to gel and DVH needs to figure out the lineup and pitching rotation a little more.
One thing I do know though...Hagen Smith is gonna drag his gonad sac across the faces of many a batter the next few years.

quote:Yep. My expectations for the season definitely rose a bit after seeing him in action. Quality arm. Wouldn't shock me at all if he's the Friday guy before the end of the year.

I'm not really worried about the offense. That'll come around. We're way too talented up and down the lineup ( and on the bench) for us to not score runs.
I think our biggest regression will be outfield defense. Not sure we've got the horses to cover the same kind of ground we could last year. Slavens doesn't look fully confident in right in particular.
The big wildcard is obviously still how the pitching staff will shake out over the course of the season. Hagen's emergence after losing Pallette would be a massive boon.

Hogville-ish question, but are this weekend’s baseball games being televised? I was combing the list of upcoming games on ESPN+ and didn’t see either today or tomorrow’s games listed. Are they being blacked out from ESPN+/SECN+?
I’ll hang up and listen.

As far as I know, you have to use the fking Flosports app for this weekend and drop $30 for a one-month subscription.

Usually there’s a couple solid bro’s that stream it on twitch. They stayed up for the whole game last year.
