No doubt. We needed the breathing room.

Great win by the Hogs to keep the series steak going.
Kopps is an absolute warrior, but I'll repost what I said Friday night in terms of concern for what we're asking of him after he put up 7.1 and 111 pitches this weekend.

DVH obviously knows more than I do, but I'm a bit concerned about the number of innings we're asking Kopps to eat on a regular basis.
Just feels like our pitching strategy has devolved a bit into hoping our starter goes 5, biting our fingernails through 3-6 outs with a reliever or two, and trotting Kopps out for the 8th and 9th (and that's not when we're asking him to pitch 3).
I'm concerned that if this continues into the postseason that we might blow Kopps on long relief one night and not have him for a critical high leverage save situation the next.

Some pitcher needs to step up bigly

I wouldn’t worry too much. He threw 111 pitches in a weekend but he’ll get the whole week so although he pitched a starters workload this weekend he’ll get a starters rest. As long as you’ve got the durability to start games which I think kopps does, and your pitching out of the pen due to choice rather than necessity he should be fine.

Wondering if DVH lets him pitch more than he would normally with someone else because Kopps already had TJ surgery 2-3 years ago. Seems like once you’ve already had it there are fewer arm issues

Normally after TJ, those guys have rubber arms. It’s rare(but has happened) that guys will have a second TJ surgery. Basically, after the first TJ you’re 3/4 robot.
We will finish league play going 4-2. Win our first two in Hoover and then exit which will give everyone plenty of rest heading into regionals. If this team makes Omaha, we have a legit shot again at title series. With a day between each game, we will be fine if we stay on winners side.

This right here, DVH has zero fricks to give at the SEC tourney

I'd be shocked if Kopps has >2 IP total for the SECt.
Personally, I'd prefer Noland, Trest, Ramage, Lockhart, Costeiu, Monke, Wiggins, and Morris to be the only pitchers that DVH brings to Hoover.

OP updated. Team BA dropped by a couple points. Team HR's up. Team ERA down. Team field pct. dropped. Kopps ERA dropped.

This would suit me just fine although I don't see Noland pitching another meaningful inning this year.

Hogs #1 in BA poll for 11th consecutive week. Longest streak at #1 for a team in BA poll since 2013.

Who was that back then? Scarleena?
Posted on 5/10/21 at 8:28 am to STLhog
North Carolina actually...they were #1 for 13 consecutive weeks that season.

Hogs remain #1 in D1, PG, College baseball Nation.

Not a bad list, though Noland is a complete question mark and Ramage is probably done at this point. Don't believe he's been in since UAPB back on April 14th.
