17 of the last 17 national champions recruit much better than Arkansas. Why do you continue to disregard this fact?

Because it is irrelevant to the fact that the path to success at the highest levels in college football is by having the very best defense you can field. Generally that is done by having the very best defensive coaches you can hire.

The fact that we've had a top 10 offense and went 10-3, and a top 10 defense and went 7-6 are outliers, and have been proven to be so. The fact is that 82% of the time over the last 17 years, the national champion has had a top 10 defense. If having a top 10 defense isn't your focus, you aren't seriously pursuing a national championship, or an SEC championship.

Even with a defensive head coach, you may, and probably will fall short of that top 10 defense, because of several factors. But the fact have proven that even if you do, you are pursuing the correct path to the most success achievable. Defense.

4 of the last 8 national champions have been from our division. So we just need to recruit better than Bama and have a better defense than Bama. So simple!

No we shouldn't. He's a hot head with no leadership qualities. That's why he's a lifetime assistant

You are totally clueless, dude. I posted this article yesterday and I'll post it again in case you didn't get a chance to read it. It's about Venables being named recruiter of the year by rivals. (Here's a hint. The best recruiters aren't "hot heads") He is just sorta intense. Which would be a welcome reprieve from the dude we just had.

Snippet:

"“He’s a super high-energy guy, always up and always positive,” Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell said.

“He’s a very, very friendly, affable, approachable person and that’s why he’s had so much success recruiting not only at Clemson but at Oklahoma before that and why he’s going to be such a great head coaching candidate. The guy loves recruiting and he is just a people person. Whoever gets him as a head coach will be getting a guy who can definitely compete on a recruiting level.”

But Stonehog says he's a hot head. Lol. Wonder who is correct? Arkansas's biggest a-hole fan, or the guy who hands the dude awards.

Well, I can't say I wasn't warned that I was wasting my time. That's not even in the realm of what I've been saying, and you know it. I'm truly sorry that the facts of this matter hurt your feels so deeply.

You've been using defensive rankings of national champions while disregarding that half of the recent championships have been won by a team in our division that has the #1 recruiting class every year. Your plan is to out-Bama Bama. We've already tried that and it has failed. Look at the teams who have beat Bama in recent years. They didn't do it with defense.

You're obsessed with using national champions as a reference while totally disregarding Arkansas and our situation in the SEC West. "Bama won the national championship and they had a top 10 defense. Let's do that. It's so simple!" That's you for the past week.

You're being disengenous again, Stonehog. Clemson's traditional recruiting level is similar to Arkansas's. Until Venables got there anyways. Then they started recruiting way above their averages. Funny how that works when you hire an elite recruiter. They also don't use the Alabama model. But I suspect you know that and you're just acting like an a-hole because, duh, you're you.

Anyways, I've spoken to you about 5 times too many already today.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your day. :)

You should focus on this aspect more than the defense one. You could get more behind you that way.

Well, I think I've laid out a fairly strong case for Venables over our other known candidates. Eh. It doesn't make much difference. You can lead a horse to water, and all that jazz.

If our power broker types truly want what's best for the football program, this is an easy decision.

Alabama has lost 7 games since 2012, excluding this year. The average offense that has beat them is #21.57, the average defense that has beat them is #37.

The out-Bama Bama stuff is dumb, and was dumb the first time it was uttered. Alabama has not won 14 of the last 17 national championships, so the importance of the focus on defense goes beyond trying to beat Alabama. It's about having the most success we can create for ourselves in college football. It's what the successful teams do, and this has been proven to you several different ways.

ALABAMA IS IN OUR DIVISION DUDE. I'm about to have an aneurysm so I gotta put this conversation to bed man. We've been saying the same shite for 5 days.

Which is also irrelevant as to whether it is more productive to focus on defense or offense. You choose to do this because all the facts prove your position wrong.

You take yourself way too seriously dude. Nobody making these decisions gives a flying frick what either of us believe. Drink a beer. Try investing more heavily in facts and research, rather than emotions and feelings. Your positions aren't dumb or evil, they just aren't supported by any facts.

He’s never assembled a staff, managed a roster, or had to make major in game decisions. Every other coach on the list has done all of these, so yes, it’s an easy decision

Well, if the way he runs a defense is any indication, he's much more likely to be the next Bill Belichick than he is the next John L. Smith.

Each known candidate has the potential to be a disaster. Kiffin, Norvell, and Venables are the only ones with the potential to win the SEC. Of those 3, the only one who has proven he can field a defense capable of winning at that level is Venables, and he has done just that multiple times at two different schools.
