Arkansas has hired Florida State defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson, a source familiar with the decision tells @247Sports.

Woodson fills a spot on Arkansas' staff left open by linebackers coach/interim DC Michael Scherer, who left to become UNLV's defensive coordinator.

from FSU site:
quote:

Woodson was brought in with high hopes as both a coach and a recruiter, having served as the Recruiting Coordinator at Auburn and at another prior stop, Charleston Southern. He’s had mixed results as a recruiter and a talent developer, and it appears the separation between Woodson and FSU is mutual.

Now, Florida State will seek to hire a new defensive backs coach. The new hire will need to bring a strong work ethic and be a developer of talent and a contender on the recruiting trail.

Wonder if Bowman or Adams stick this offseason or move to some place like UNLV with Odom.

Both contracts for our defensive assistants ran through Feb 28, 2023 as did Scherer's.

Yes, but his relationship with Norvell had soured recently.

Won’t this be Dominick’s third team? How come he doesn’t have to sit out a year?

He’s a grad transfer.

Good hire though.

Hope we can keep the remaining core in place.

More smoke on the Mississippi boards that Briles is considering going to Moo State as the OC.

Supposedly nothing in stone yet, but Ole Miss and Miss State boards both reporting they're hearing things.

Not good, but if so, hopefully we get Merlins.. only other dude I’d like is BMFP to call the O, but that isn’t happening.

That would be so deflating. I’m a massive Razorback homer but losing a top coordinator to Mississippi State would definitely put a dent in my interest of this current iteration of the program going forward.

I just do not see this happening.

Mrs. Briles spoke to our family for at least 30 minutes at the peabody on Tuesday night.

They would love to be at Arkansas for YEARS!

Schools, lifestyle, friends, church, admin, etal...

I may get shocked, but dang!

Miami's 247 guy last year thought they had him too.

One would have to think the money would be too much to pass up to make a less than lateral move. I don’t see it.

I don’t see it happening, not because of all those reason, but because it would mean more years starting over as an OC instead of getting HC experience. Which I assume will be his next job.

That’d be a bad move for Briles.

Arnett is a compete unknown, and 2023 Mississippi State has 2012 Arkansas written all over it.

- unexpectedly lost an innovative offensive head coach
- elevated a member of the staff for continuity (JLS had left a few months prior for Weber State but point remains)
- return an All SEC caliber QB

Arnett might well turn out to be a success, but the factors that led to his ascension and the current vibe of that program is eerily similar to us in 2012 after Petrino went over the handlebars. You don’t lose a coach like Leach and just move on without issue. He was the face and driving force of that program as well as being the OC and play caller.

I fully expect Arnett to be fired. I am honestly surprised they didn’t go after Dana Holgerson. I think Houston is about to run him off and he runs almost the exact same offense leach did.

I don't think it would make any sense now for him to leave when he should have left after the Missouri game.

If he is dumb enough to leave with what we have coming back/in offensively then we don't want him here. Would be an even more WTF move than Odom to UNLV.
