Those Hog fans on social media, other messageboards and here get what they wanted this offseason. Odom gone
I'm not one for knee jerk reactions, but as bad as our defense was this season, Odom had to go. There's no way to survive that as a DC. Especially as much as he was being compensated.
Honestly, Pittman is at a crossroads. He has to make good hires and right the ship otherwise he'll be gone in 2 seasons.

Yup, changes had to be made

What if Sam makes a good hire but the defense still struggles?

Even accounting for the SEC being better that’s still a 50+ difference in total defense 2/3 years. It’s not THAT much worse.

Our defense doesn’t have to improve much to improve our win total

Which league averaged more yards and PPG?

Defensive effiecency ranks for the 2022 reg season:
Baylor - 58th, 0.38 pts per play
Arkansas - 80th, 0.42 pts per play
Yes, it's an improvement, but there are guys out there wayyyy better.
DCs for:
Marshall - 3rd, 0.20 pts per play
Troy - 7th, 0.25 pts per play
Iowa State - 13th, 0.27 pts per play (same league and schedule as Baylor)
Cincinnati - 20th, 0.29 pts per play
All of those are realistic options that could have been looked at for Arkansas.

I honestly don't care anymore. Doesn't seem to matter. We're not going to get anyone good. Maybe our willingness to pay will help. Yurachek has a way of sealing all leaks and hiring someone not on any radars.
Saying this, the lack of rumors on Leonhard starts me getting my hopes up for him. We can pay him $2million/yr easy. Hell, Odom's $1.8 million would be a substantial raise for him if what I read was true and he made $1.5 million this year.

Marshall - 3rd, 0.20 pts per play (Level of competition?)
Troy - 7th, 0.25 pts per play (Level of competition?)
Iowa State - 13th, 0.27 pts per play (same league and schedule as Baylor)
Cincinnati - 20th, 0.29 pts per play (Uhh, if they couldnt keep our anemic offense from winning???
Just for thought!

Depends. If we're struggling to get bowl eligible then he'll be gone. Again, I'm not a knee jerk guy, but I certainly remember our fanbase flying banners over WMS and FOIAing phone records when they wanted Nutt gone.
It's Pittman's responsibility to win games. 8-4 should be the low expectation every season. That was more than doable this season, but the coaching staff pissed it away.

He chose Auburn.

SOURCE: Former Baylor DC Ron Roberts is expected to become the new defensive coordinator at Auburn. His defense at Baylor led the Big 12 in run defense in 2021 and was No. 3 this year, BU led the conference in turnovers gained last year and was No. 4 this season.

Who knows? For all we know, we are hammering out the details of the deal for the best DC still available. Or not.

This was a really big win for Auburn. Arkansas was also trying to land Ron Roberts to run its defense.

Auburn has targeted former Baylor defensive coordinator Ron Roberts and is expected to beat out Arkansas for his services, sources told 247Sports on Sunday.
Roberts, 55, has risen through the ranks of college football, from Delta State to Louisiana and most recently at Baylor. He led the Bears to a top-10 finish in scoring as they finished the 2021 season as Big 12 champions with the program’s first New Year’s Six bowl victory under head coach Dave Aranda.
Roberts interviewed last week with Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia Tech, a person familiar with the process told 247Sports. The Razorbacks made Roberts their No. 1 priority in their search to replace coordinator Barry Odom late last week and coach Sam Pittman was convinced as late as Saturday they were on the cusp of hiring Roberts before Auburn coach Hugh Freeze was able to sway the playcaller to the Plains.
Roberts is among the highest-respected playcallers in the sport despite being fired Dec. 1 at Baylor. Roberts is known as “the godfather” of the recent proliferation of simulated pressures/blitzes in major college football. His schemes provide a safer avenue to fake blitzes while not losing coverage responsibilities. Roberts’ staff in 2013 at Southeastern Louisiana included future Alabama coordinator Pete Golding, future Seattle Seahawks secondary coach Karl Scott and future Florida co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney.
Aranda fired Roberts Dec. 1 after three years leading the Bears’ defense, which ranked 65th in scoring (26.6) this fall. Baylor was 10th in the country last season at 18.3 points per game.
Roberts, 55, was Aranda’s mentor at Delta State, where Roberts served as defensive coordinator for two seasons before he was elevated to head coach in 2007. He hired Aranda as his defensive coordinator. Roberts led Delta State for five seasons, which included four Gulf South Conference titles, four playoff appearances and an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship Game in 2010.
Roberts, who also coached linebackers at Baylor, was hired away by Southeastern Louisiana before the 2012 season and went on to win the program’s first Southland Conference titles in 2013 and 2014 as the head coach. He moved on to Louisiana, his first job on the FBS level, to become Billy Napier’s defensive coordinator in 2018 before Aranda brought him to Waco in 2020.
“What was created during that time gave birth to many of the norms we see in modern college defenses,” analyst Cody Alexander explained in 2018.

8-4 every season isn't a realistic floor. Bowl eligible at worst and probably 10-11 wins at best.
This year we had injuries and couldn't stay healthy as a team. We don't have depth to allow for any injuries much less 5 injuries to a position group at a time.

That may have been the most childish/pathetic crap I’ve ever seen in my life. Our program and the good part of our fanbase took a massive hit from that moronic behavior.
Those twits and that worthless website they inhabit can all go to hell….
