I’ve said since the beginning, if we wind up with Chaney, I will be out on Pittman and be calling for his job.

This has been and still is my biggest worry about Pittman. Chaney will be the end of him here. I hope he understands that the fan base won't accept him no matter the results.

It’s pathetic how reactive these ADs are. Anyone with a brain knew Saban, Meyer Dabo etc were worth 20 million/year. I don’t understand how every major coaching search doesn’t start with “make sure Alabama is paying Saban what he’s actually worth” then commence with the actual search.

I agree. It seems like the people in charge have been clueless (until Yuracek).

I believe Saban's original contract with Alabama was something like $5 million a year. At the time, it was eye-popping. Highest in the NCAA.

He was worth every penny. He still is. The school's massive enrollment jump has coincided with the Saban era.

They're a national program, with fans everywhere. The ROI has been incredible on that investment.

I could maybe see 7m if he had this season AND multiple top 10-15 classes.

He is currently being out recruited by Beamer and Drinkwitz. So no.

Supposedly we’re about to have the best class since Petrino was here

I mean Morris had a better class star rating wise but not many of that bunch actually produced up to their ranking.

Issue Arkansas has experienced is the top rated guys from out of state don't live up to the ranking.

Other issue is the lack of elite or quality defensive linemen.

So I'm a big fan of Sam Pittman...and likely always will be...but signing with the slime bag definitely lost a little luster.

I realize that he had little choice. I'm sure that he got the call saying..."Sam...if you don't join the team we're coming after you assistants". That along with him seeing the other crazy salaries thrown around...you might as well get it while you can. I don't begrudge that...but...you better dang sure win and recruit with the rest of the pack.

For me...Sam just went from 'as long as you want providing we're decent' to 'ok buddy...back it up...we'll assess you just like we would anyone".

I hope he makes the cut. I think he actually might.

That is a good point. Sexton is the most powerful man in the SEC.

I think this was the selling point. Being the 12th (possibly the 13th) best paid coach in the SEC probably started to irk him. Particularly when Pittman saw guys getting 2 million dollars a year more than him for the same results.

In a couple of years the median Head Coach salary in the SEC is going to be 6 million bucks, or somewhere north of that. It is the reality of the situation we are in.

I think some of us, I'm not pointing any fingers, are getting upset at folks like Pittman and Burks for doing what we would have done in their shoes. Miss a bowl game and get healthy for a shot at improving your signing bonus by 500 grand or so? Double your salary so it is at least in line with your peers? Unless we have a few millionaires who post here from their yachts in the South of France we'd all jump on those opportunities.

This is why the Hogs will never be top tier in the SEC in football, we always go cheap. The administration is so damn cheap on everything. Unfortunately, prices have gone up in the conference. Briles and Odom, particularly Briles, deserve a raise, so does Pitt. For what they have accomplished in 2 years is great. Stop being fricking cheap and pay them what they deserve.

Do we though?

We paid petrino well no problems. Bielema and the assistants ad well.

Morris was a cheapo and his dtsff didn't have the experience to ask for much either outside the retiree he kept on staff. And we paid that retiree well, better than the door greeter salary he earned at least.....

The Sam hire though was a budget last resort type of hire. We took a risk on Sam and it paid off. Sam got a substantial raise from where he was.

Now, I'm no fan of him switching to sexton. But I don't begrudge anyone for wanting to get paid what their value is. Everyone is definitely getting a raise the question is what do we do with buyouts? Do we lock in penalties for the OC/DC unless they move to HC type clauses? Does Sam get all his money but a weak buyout in case shite hits the fan? Or do we commit to paying him millions for a decade after going 11-11?

I'd like to see something like a 6 million base, with 500K incentive for each win starting at 8 wins, and a million for getting into the playoff.

That would put him at 9 million, but we would most likely have an SEC championship and a playoff appearance to show for it.

For all those throwing shade at HY. Wasn't his big issue with coaching contracts the ridiculous buyouts?

He was the 6th highest paid coordinator in the country (3rd in the SEC) when the season started. He made more than Dan Lanning and Pete Golding.

Maybe Sam knows what is happening with Muss is about to happen to him and he wants locked in so he can’t be easily let go?

He's also got the #2 class in the nation waiting in the wings. Not exactly comparable situations.
