One of my coworker’s friends has a daughter in junior high who was doing a research project for school. The subject she picked was to research why NWA has such a high population of people that don’t get enough food, even though we have a lot of food pantries and churches who donate food.
Long story short, she went around to different churches and they happily gave her information and statistics about what types of programs they have to help the needy. Except when she got to Cross Church. She emailed and called and they kept ignoring her, and she finally got a face to face meeting with their PR guy and he still wouldn’t tell her the information she needed. They interrogated her and eventually had security escort her and her mom out of the building
I was pretty neutral about them until he told me that. I’ve also heard that Chick-fil-A gives them free food and then they give it to people and act like they are spending a ton of money on it to help those in need.

Criminals really love the dark skies. Way harder to be seen breaking in to homes and cars or dealing drugs when the streets are dark. Well lit areas discourage crime.
Sometimes I load my son up in the car on nice clear nights and we drive 5 minutes out of town and look at the stars. We look for shooting stars, satellites, and "UFOs".

Yeah, some folks are just bad and nothing is going to change that. I keep it lit up outside my house, have a big scary dog in my yard, have an alarm system, and a few other ways to protect my house and family.
My house was burglarized 9 years ago this 4th of July. I had left town for the weekend and I guess someone saw me loading the luggage. I take no chances now.

They don't have a "PR guy". Not sure exactly what transpired but I know they have a food pantry located on Thompson/ 71B across from Wal-Mart as I've donate stuff their on occasion.
And to answer you co-workers friends daughters question, the reason NWA has a high population of people not getting enough food is likely poor lifestyle choices, but it sucks when they have kids they refuse to take care of. Most people asking for money on exit ramps won't take the time to go to a food pantry. They don't really want food as much as they do cash to support their vice of choice.

Actually, approximately half of those people suffer from mental illness and yes, addiction. They need our compassion, not derision. Telling them to just "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" isn't the answer. It's not just laziness, they need help.
As for Cross Church, I don't know it or Ronnie Floyd. But I know the type. If/when Jesus comes again, it's my belief he'll weep again at the billions of dollars spent building temples for men around the world, when a homeless, sick, addicted man is slowly dying just down the street. I don't get it.

While I partially agree with you, I have seen countless times where these folks have been offered jobs to make some case for their food/vices and they turn them down. I had a man tell me he could make more in a week at an intersection than he could at any job.
This is where I stop giving and start complaining. The jobs offered weren't at Micky D's either, decent jobs paying upwards of 12-15 an hour for someone without a degree and much training. Some with benefits, training programs.
If you wont lay the crack pipe down long enough to take a hand up, well...…
