Is he all of a sudden terrible? No one even mentions him when talking about our QB situation.

He didn't receive the development needed under the last staff imho. He still has the tools needed to have some success. However, when comparing his tangibles/stats from what little he was used last season with our past staff vs. those of the Llama and Hornsby he seems at first glance to be left behind.

All of that is conjecture by the majority. I hope he turns it on and does incredibly well. Deservingly so.

If Hornsby pans out KJ is likely to be a transfer portal candidate after this season....or move to LB...he's too slow to play WR, but with an extra 25 lbs could be a monster OLB.

He's too good to be a backup, needs to be developed.

Hornsby is Briles' guy...and while Briles we'll play whichever will help us win, it is just natural to players you've recruited personally for years a bit extra attention than ones you inherit....especially if the inherited players have the knock of not being able to pick up plays.

Next year...will be the year of the Llama.

Franks is the immediate starter and Hornsby is the shiny new toy.

I’m sure KJ will get some chances this year when Franks inevitably gets nicked up or when we’re getting blown out by Alabama and we should be able to tell a lot more about him by 2021. Just don’t have much to go on at this point.

Move him to LB if he can play there.

Apparently he just isn't very good at all.

We don't know and we won't know until after spring and summer camps. He could turn out to be a real diamond in the rough but the previous regime did him and JSJ no favors at all.

Getting zero training at the QB position, other than just repetition of the play book, is incredibly damaging to a young QB. Maybe Briles and company can salvage things.

He's gotta figure out where that first down marker is

I don’t know about all of a sudden terrible, but I would bet the kid essentially coached himself for a year or more, which is plenty of time to ingrain bad habits, bad footwork, just go through the motions, not really worry about clock management, or where the first down marker is. Sound familiar?

Kid now has a coach, but may be so much of a project that the coach who didn’t bring him here let’s him go be someone else’s reclamation project.

Just another reason Morris needs to get trucked by someone on our team when we play. He was just setting the stage for his son.

let's see how he does with a year of college conditioning and several games played under his belt.

not to mention what should be better training and development

making a decision good or bad on him right now is dumb.

Must improve on his passing skills, but still has a lot of potential. This spring is critical for him.

If you don't know where the 1st down marker is by college, you have a football IQ less than 25. He will struggle to learn a playbook.

I don't really get this whole move him to LB nonsense. He looked pretty damn good his first drive. Until Chad the real QB Killa got ahold of him.

Then he got injured or something. But he came in and hit targets and evaded guys and trucked a LB.

Everyone keeps talking about all these bad habits he has picked up, where did you see them in the 3 quarters he played this year?

I'm not saying he didn't learn bad habits from Chad skipping practices to go watch his son play but the first drive he looked amazing and didn't look bad until after about the 16th scripted play in his start which is when you usually quit pregame scripting.

I know Hornsby is the new shiny precious but you Smeagols haven't mentioned him this whole off season.

He made plenty of first downs and TD's in high school. I blame Crash Craddock for KJ's play last year.

Damn I'm glad that tard coaching staff is gone.

I blamed him coming up short of the first down marker on the shoulder injury he had surgery for after the season but if he keeps doing it the next time he plays I guess we’ll know it wasn’t that

His spatial awareness aside. I did make a comment last season that he seemed to have a low football IQ. Watching him play against equal talent to himself, he seemed kind of lost out there. I think he's very talented, but it's pretty obvious he's a very raw athlete. But what do I know? My football IQ is zero or less.

I’d like to think I have a pretty high football iq. To me there’s no way to tell what he does or doesn’t know. The play calling was super predictable last season all year but it became EXTREMELY vanilla when he came in. In Truth I couldn’t tell where his football iq was because they never tested it. Everything they ran with him looked like something an 8th grade offense would run. I know people like to say Gus has a Mickey Mouse high school offense, well if Gus is high school chad is junior high. Jefferson never had a true read everything was either a designed keep or give. Yes the pulling up short of a first down was a head scratcher but that’s not enough to right him off entirely for. In my opinion it’s still wait and see. I believe out of him and Hornsby one will step up and be a big time playmaker for us at qb. Which one that is I don’t know but you can never have too many signal callers. And if one of them transfers out so be it we still get to keep the one we want whichever one that may be.

I stick by my post. I wouldn't know how effective he could be, considering he got no real coaching, development and was hampered by the Chard....

I would assume he is probably as good as he was coming from high school just with a year to develop mentally and physically.

He has made it through one year in college and hasn't went crazy that we've found out about, that's a pretty big plus to me.

The same comment was made by Morris last year and people started saying it was racist.
Maybe it's just true or maybe he didn't have to read defenses in High School and it was a big adjustment.

Either way we will see.
