Name the negatives

From 2008 to 2014 his defense was only outside of the top 15 once, that being 2009, #26. Not a negative, but that's your control.

2015 aTm total defense #51
2016 #90
2017 #60

Just for kicks, aTm recruiting classes:

2011 (4 years before Chavis' first year there, #34.
2012 #16
2013 #9
2014 #5
2015 #11
2016 #18
2017 #13

Yes, better than Arkansas every year, except'11, I think. By a LOT, the rest.

Why do you think it's not him?

I would not like the hire. We punched LSU in the mouth several times with him and they had superior talent.

Someone on twitter said Morris wanted someone with a lot of SEC experience and he was impressed with his adjustments/playcalling when Clemson played LSU in the 2012 Peach Bowl.

Is John Chavis code for Brent Venables?

Defensive efficiency is far more useful. Points per possession will tell you more about a defense than total yards given up. Spread offenses that try to go fast will lead to your defense having to face more snaps and will most likely give up more yards, even if they're giving up less points/yards per possession than a defense paired with a pro-style, hold on to the ball type of offense.

This is true.
It's no surprise that Chavis' numbers fell at A&M. They have, or had, a very quick strike offense under Sumlin. That is always going to strain a defense.

That said, I don't think Chavis would be a good hire here for a number of reasons.

I don't know all the points considered in total defense, and couldn't find it anywhere on the site. I still fail to see where a more complete picture of the defenses is not a more accurate, and reliable yardstick.

We could've hired a much better coordinator in Vic Keonning for literally a quarter of the price we're going to have to pay Chavis... And we could've hired Jim Leavitt for cheaper than Chavis... Hell go get one of Saban's DB coaches or something... Chavis is a collosal isal waste of money
