Explain to me how Vic Koening is “a much better coordinator” than Chavis. Yes he has a good defense this year but I don’t see how you can look at his resume and say he’s better than Chavis.

Meh. Could be much worse. I bet we get good recruits on name alone.

There probably isn't anyone alive who can impart more knowledge to Morris about what it takes to have a successful defense in the SEC. i just have my doubts as to whether Chavis is capable of it anymore, especially at Arkansas.

I'm just not sure how we make up the recruiting deficit that he creates. Ten years ago maybe he pulls some recruits, but I can't see him doing it now.

It's not a Gruden type, Venables or disappointment situation, but this was my biggest fear. We got the guy we needed for offense, but if our defense runs in the 60's, we still won't win anything of significance.

What were we ranked defensively the last two years? Curious.

104 this year, 75 last year. Total defense. Could change with bowl games. What's the relevance?

It was bad. Like 90 something last year (worst year in our history), and even worse this year. Lol

104 & 75 as the message above me said.

So, 60 doesn't sound too bad to me. Coming from a guy who said he should be retired, sitting in a chair, eating chimichangas.

I don't think it matters much because I don't think we hired him.

And that's a good thing because I don't think he would be a good fit here. We need someone who DOES recruit. For starters.

as I said earlier....

I am good with chavis. Name alone will being in some cruits. Look..with a quick strike offense it is a depth game. Easier schematically and have rested defense. Just make sure the line is solid and corners.

Listening to Fitz Hill earlier, and Trey Biddy as well.. "there are not many DC's at all that are good coaches, schematically and recruit well. What Chavis would bring is a vast amount of SEC Defensive knowledge and a big name known to recruits"

He has been a DC for higher powered offenses as well.

ANyone looks bad up against Venables, but he wouldn't be absolutely terrible.

John THompson anyone?

aTm's worst recruiting class in the last 6 years was #18. Not sure what our best was, but I don't think it was that high. If you get #60 out of a six year average of #14 classes, what do you get with a 6 year average of say #25?

Pretty much where we have been already.

ETA: Which stands to reason if you look at what, say, Robb Smith was able to do here when he happened to have some NFL talent on his squad.

Take away a few key players and Arkansas looks like Arkansas.

Robb Smith is a damn good defensive coordinator.

Regardless of the ranking of those classes, those players were soft. That's on the head coach.

They also had some pretty bad attrition. I haven't actually looked at it in detail but I know that was an issue for them.

Chavis and Morris just seem like oil and water to me. Morris seems enthusiastic, energetic, motivated, and hungry. Chavis seems the opposite in all respects.

I'd rather have a young, unknown, arse kicker of a DC, who is competent, and knows he has to go out and get the players to get where we need to be.

Heard that a few times already. They managed to push our shite in every year, before and after Chavis.
