I can't even go that far. I don't care how well you recruit when you alienate every player, fan, booster, I mean lordy mercy... I didn't know of a single sportscaster/talking head who supported him towards the end.

He was a terrible fit from the beginning and a terrible coach period!

Did he have a poor starting point at Allen High School?

His job was to turn it around. He failed at his job....

Soft team... He was supposed to toughen them up. Lead them turn them into men. Instead he basically worked part time....

Chad Morris made a shite ton of money he was no where near qualified to earn. He made out like a bandit while fricking us.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's gone and was ready for him to go after 0-16 in the SEC... He failed spectacularly and that's not up for debate, my point is just that I don't really know how well anybody could've done with the dumpster fire Bert left. But after 0-16 in conference you obviously can't afford to wait any longer, and the program had no signs of turning around, except for decent recruiting. Carry on flaming tho

He tried to right a ship that Bert nuked. If anybody truly made out like a bandit while fricking us, it was Bert.

That’s a better way to put it. Both sucked and didn’t understand what needed to be done here. Beyond grateful to have a coach that understands our culture and is capable of playing not to win and achieving.

Even the AI has Chad Morris figured out.

Bert didn't nuke anything, he had one bad season. It began to crumble right after a disappointing 2015 season which Sam left for unknown reasons. Then the double digit leads that evaporated to both Missouri and Virginia Tech games after the 2016 was the turning point to what could have been a 9-4 year.

Bert wasnt great and was especially neglectful at the end. But Chad Morris made us worse. We weren't barely beating fcs schools or getting run out of the stadium to wku. We were in fact more talented than those teams....

Bert knew what needed to be done but his problem was that he was a fish out of water without his mentor Barry Alvarez.

His mouth was trouble but after an unnecessary 0-8 in the SEC he got off Twitter. Then he did it again in Texas at some coaches clinic saying if you don't use a fullback we are gonna kick your arse. Well Cliff Kingsbury and Tech would beat Arkansas the next year. He gets on Twitter and makes fun of Bert.

His alcoholism goes back to his Wisconsin days and they were wild. That certainly didn't help with his coaching ability, a jump in competition from the Big 10 to SEC got to him as the stress got worse and so did his weight.

Bert quit right after the Missouri and Virginia Tech games. He knew losing both of those games meant that he no longer had the program going in a positive momentum. 9-4 is better than 7-6 and 2017 wouldn't have bombed like it did.

Pittman left because he was tired of working for a lazy, sloppy drunk who skipped out on recruiting visits and was, simply put, a fricking mess.

He saw the writing on the wall and left when Smart got the Georgia job and came calling.

The only raw deal that was given was to the fans who were asked to polish a turd. He was a terrible hire even for a G5 coach when others at his level were more qualified.

Yes the word was that Bert and Sam had an argument. I think it was about a recruit that visited, Sam called Bert because said recruit wanted to see him. Bert said he would see them soon but they waited on him and he didn't show up. He was on a plane to Vegas. Sam was embarrassed and the recruit went to an SEC school.

This sums up not only why Pittman left but why the program crumbled under Bert. He was a mess. Bert simply does not have it in him to be a high level head coach unless he's got a Hall of Famer like Barry Alvarez holding his hand the whole way.

Bert probably would have done well under Broyles with Frank calling the shots and keeping him at least vaguely sober. He was a disaster under Long and Yurachek would never have hired him.

Bert would probably do pretty well at G5 school with low expectations. He'd be great at the FCS level. He was well over his head at the SEC though.

Think about this folks... after Nutt, who got fairly average results despite the SEC West being in the toilet, we had these three coaches in a row: John L. Smith who had a nervous breakdown during the season. Bert who was a lazy drunk. Chad "I may be the worst head coach in SEC history" Morris.

Its a miracle we still have a football program at this point.

I’d agree that from a general standpoint Bert knew that we needed to improve and he’d taken over a dumpster fire. But I don’t think (to your point) he would ever have been able to do anything more without daddy Barry. Look at him at Illinois. Different school, back to the big 10, still making Bert moves and losing close games he should know how to win. Just glad to not have to hear about him passing out in a booth at ESG or other restaurants and showing up drunk on recruiting visits.

I disagree that Bert inherited a dumpster fire. Look at the talent on the 2014 team. Most of that was inherited
