Quality Thread #36

quote:

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After averaging a double-double last week against Florida and Ole Miss, freshman forward Daniel Gafford earned his second career SEC Freshman of the Week honor from the league office Monday.

quote:

Gafford joins NBA players Bobby Portis and Patrick Beverley as the only Razorbacks to earn the honor multiple times and is one of three players in the league to claim it twice this year.

quote:

Gafford recorded his first career double-double last Wednesday at Florida, scoring 14 points and adding 11 rebounds, including a career-high five offensive boards. The 6-11 big man followed that with one of his most complete performances of the year with 15 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and a career-high three steals in a home victory against Ole Miss. Last week, he averaged 14.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

quote:

Gafford is shooting 62.5 percent from the field this season, ranking fifth among all freshmen in the country, second overall in the SEC and 31st overall in the nation. He leads the SEC in field goal percentage in conference games, shooting 58.5 percent (38-65).

quote:

Averaging 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds against SEC teams, Gafford has scored 14-plus points in five of his first seven career SEC games. The El Dorado, Arkansas, native is responsible for 42 of Arkansas’ 76 dunks and has recorded as many dunks as six SEC teams.

Arkansas travels to Athens, Georgia, Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. CT matchup with the Bulldogs on the SEC Network.

Definitely possible. There will be some talent. Just inexperienced. Probably an up and down year that ends up around .500.

I can deal with a down year if we get this year figured out and finish strong. I'm excited to see what the new guards will be able to do next year. Hopefully Garland gets cleared. Jalen Harris is a guy I think could have a breakout season.

He does the same shite in each game no matter who his opponent is as well.

Shoots over 60% from the field and when he's in the game the opposing team's shooting % goes WAY down.

He's a lock as a first round draft pick this year. If Mike Anderson can keep him for another year it will be the best thing he has done since becoming our coach.

If he were able to develop an outside jumpshot this offseason and get his free throw percentage up he could potentially be a #1 overall pick.

Not sure if I'd step that far but he's doing work on boards lately. Up to #21 on this one. He wasn't on anything earlier in the year.

He's still a project to most scouts. He has a lot of skill work to do before he's a top 10 guy.

Solid jinx thread.

He got man handled last night but hoping he learns a thing or two and comes out ready.

I'm sure he will.

I hope he stays. I remember coming into this year, with Moses's departure, thinking it's going to be a tough year down low. Boy was I wrong.

He has the confidence and ability to do big things. That and the fact he isn't afraid of the spotlight, which is remarkable for a freshman.

He could stand to add a few pounds and add in a nice little jumper. That would be lethal because he can drive to the basket with ease.

Dude needs a lot more than a jumper offensively.

Maten exposed him last night, gotta work on his footwork, which will help him defensively as well.

Best thing about Gafford is opponent's shooting percentage when he's on the floor. Even if he has a bad offensive night as long as he can stay out of foul trouble our defensive game is much much stronger than it otherwise would be.

He can be, if he wants to. It's all about if he wants to wait or not. He's not a guaranteed first round pick at this point. He will almost certainly go to the combine this year, and if he gets the word that a team is guaranteed to take him before the end of the first round, he might just leave. After the first round, there is no pay scale. You have to negotiate on your own, no guarantees. There is a big pay difference between a lottery pick and picks 20-30 tho. There's a 2.2 million dollar difference over the first 3 years for the 16th pick vs the 25th pick. With that. hopefully he will stay another year so he can move up into that lottery conversation, and make even more money!! That being said, if people are gonna guarantee him to be a millionaire by drafting him in the first, that's a hard offer to pass up.
